Your knowledge of the IRA and it's bombing campaigns is also a little skewed.....during the bombings you mentioned the uk bombing campaign was headed by an Englishman and it was never about religion but home rule for the irish, which had been taken away from them on a religious pretext, with only NI being left to be returned. State sponsored killings of Catholics did occur, generally legitimate targets being active IRA members and as they viewed themselves at war they knew the risks. However this is a whole different thread.

I think the whole problem with Muslims is religion first, state second.

Where as other religions usually favour state first, religion second.

"Be the best" "No limits" "travel the world" - sounds better than dole queue and no real prospects cos the economy is goosed. In reality if you have some acedemic quals you go REME and try to get a trade out of it, if your better off you do Sandhurst and a commission before getting a well paid job in the private sector.

 

If the recruiter said "join the army, go to a shit hole and get shot at or bombed, if you are injured Help for Heroes will look after you cos we wont give a f**k....oh and if you kill someone in error then you can be jailed when you get home" it's not so appealing is it.....

 

 

In reality the forces are just like everywhere else, the officers are from the upper classes, they have different food and quarters, middle classes are the NCO's and squaddies are your working classes. The all push through the agendas of those at the top and its those at the bottom who more often pay the ultimate price.

 

I am not anti forces, i would like to see them brought home and manning our borders to stop the filth flooding in here to abuse our hospitality. We should be proud of our forces, let them wear uniform in shops and get served, let them police anti british demo's (cut the police o/t bill cos we are already paying for the soldiers). If the British Muslims object then feel free to leave this sceptered isle....go live in Mecca, a place were even Iddi Amin was welcomed?????

Thats a fair opinion and i agree with most of it, but propaganda tv adverts to blame for everyone joining up? They can glam it up as much as they want but every recruit knows (should if theres atleast one brain cell between the ears) theres a good chance of going to war, we all see the news reports, the death stats and casuality rates. Bad things happen at war, yet show me a solider whose never been before that would turn the opportunity down. Alot of non-infantry (artillary/re/reme/tanks etc who go over do so by 'volenteering'

yes - briefly.....not for me !! although i can understand the attraction for young lads but the full extent of what can happen in a war zone both physically and mentally is understated by the MOD and until it happens to you or someone you know then you wont get it!
