Daveo 61
I need some advice, Iv been to look at a few litters of puppies lately and the last one i went to really raised alarm bells. It was a complete shithole to be honest, The owners would'nt let me in the house and after seeing the flea bites on their legs and fleas pinging off them I would have declined anyway. But what got me was the shear number of dogs they had in there, all full of fleas with runny eyes and covered in shit. All had nails like witches so i suspect they dont leave the house. I know pups make a mess iv had them, iv seen it and cleaned it. but this was something else. I felt sorry for everyone and dogs involved, and against my better judgement i bought a pup (I know, I know!) I just felt sorry for it, well all of them, I offered to take the whole litter off her hands but she said no Now i feel like paying money for a pup was a stupid thing to do because while they are selling they might keep breeding. What i will say is the husband had been really, really ill and they wanted rid of most of the dogs. I think maybe when he was well it was not the cleanest place but now he's not its really gone down hill. Thay can't cope. I feel like i should tell someone but who? Defo not the rspca, maybe the local authority? What do you reckon? I feel like a grass but a couple of peoples feelings is less important than one dogs welfare let alone 20 dogs, Right? ratattack 111
Environmental health department in the local council could be the answer especially if it's a council house.

Guest Buttermilk
I think you definitely need to report the situation. I certainly would, especially as you offered to take the whole litter, but they declined your offer of help. Children and animals cannot defend themselves and need to be protected from situations like this. It's a pity there aren't more people like you around.... Edited to add....it's not a case of 'grassing'....for God's sake, we're not all 10 yrs old....it's a case of alerting the authorities to the plight of vulnerable, helpless animals who can't help themselves and have to endure that nightmarish squalor, day in day out, until someone has the guts to stand up and do something about it.. Well said. It's not grassing in a situation like this, it's a case of doing the right thing.
Terrier man 38
Craig I dont think impersonating a member of the rspca is a good idea. Unfortunatly daveo theres not alot you can do in this situation without geting the people keeping the dogs backs up.. But in this case there not dog folk there just folk who keep dogs and not in good conditions by the sounds of things. What i would do is go have a word with the owner and tell her that you will help her rehome the dogs and if she doesnt go along with this then its out of your hands and into the department .
