I wouldn't use ketchup daily, there are too many bad things in it like salt and sugar. Mine also get sardines in tomato sauce once a week and they love it. Maybe a small amount of pure tomato juice would be a better alternative to ketchup?

 

I wouldn't worry about a dollop-a-day there is probably more salt and sugars in dry/wet dog food than a dollop of ketchup, we're not talking fish and chips here....

 

Besides mother's dog is 12 and (I seriously doubt its due to the ketchup) hasn't been to the vet since its first injections!

 

But worth trying the juice instead to be on the safe side!

I didn't say you shouldn't use it - just that I personally wouldn't because of the reasons mentioned. I think half a bottle would be too costly - unless you like that cheap supermarket brand crap?

 

My bottle of proper ketchup contains vinegar, sugar and salt (quantities not stated). Per 15ml serving (a "dollop") it contains 0.4g salt. You all rave on about natural BARF diets and then are happy to add refined sugar salt and vinegar to your dog's food. A carton of tomato juice would be cheaper and healthier.

 

Btw, tomatoes are believed to help prevent prostate problems in men so perhaps those with dogs might find they could benefit too?

 

PS I don't believe I overbaby my dogs, but I won't add something to their diet which I believe is unhealthy. Oh, and no problems with my grass, and I have two bitches.

not really cheap, but would say only use through the growing season.. get the dosage right and they do work..

i've brought enough grass seed over the last few years to re-sew the sarengeti.. several times over!
