SeanTheHawker 0
Over the last fortnight ive only been out twice on the lamp, due to being able to fly during the day . back to work as normal this week so the lamping begins again. headed out last night to some new permission which id never lamped before.rolf weighed 1lb 5.5 so perfect, as i got into the first field he cast up a pellet! 25 hours after i last fed him? anyway seen about 15 rabbits in the first field, and couldnt get within 200 yards of any of them! the ground had clearly been lamped before. which maybe made the night i bit more fun lol. entered into the second field and as we crossed a ditch a rabbit appeared along it, rolf gave a good chase, went it hard at it, but didnt get much of a footing to it. seen a few more in that field. but the same as the first, very very hard to get near. the only chances i was getting good flights where when i was peaking between ditches into the next field. anyway, continued to do a lovely big field and had 2 or 3 flights from it, all 3 were long range, maybe 1 or 2 hundred yards, each time he striked at them, he was missing completly, was getting very difficult. then i gave to a part of the field where there must have been a lane beign built. each side there was 2 mounds of about 4 feet high. i thought this would be my chance to sneak up on one. went over a mound and instantly a rabbit was on the run, tho instead of running down the lane. it ran up over, rolf striked at it, but missed just as it was coming over, then it started to run clean out in the feild, rolf pumping behind it, then bang! he had it. both feet to the head, which is sothing he rarly gets at night). big bloody rabbit too. as seeing as the rabbits were so shy, i decided to call it a night at that, and got to bed early lol. ive included a few pics, and also a pic of his tail mount with a fishing light on it. works well. dont see it when hes flying. but when hes been pulled into a hedge, and hes got the wings out to anchor himself, it shows up well. SeanTheHawker 0
headed out again last night at a very early 8pm! headeded somewhere local a mate knew and first bird out was my mates first year female, whos had 4 rababits now and he wanted to see how she would do on the lamp. first rabbit see seen, she chased hard, she had a good half a dozen flights with some really close encouters, think she got a foot to one or two. for a bird that had never seen a lamp i was shocked, she whacked into some thick cover a few times too, very confident bird she was. but come about 10 pm she was too wet to fly on so we took out rolf.entereding the first field i got a phone clal saying i had to be back at 11:30 to get the car before my da put his in, early start for him. anyway, decided to go for just the one we headed on first field there was a steep climb up a hill, when we reached the flat ground at the top, i flicked the beam on , to see a rabbit30 yards from cover, rolf was of like a shot, went it at it but jinked it, then landed in a post, as the rabbit ran alogn the ditch towards us, then out of nowhere rolf is back in the equation, whacked it right in the backside, but managed to anchor it with the ditch, not a bad flight. so 1 rabbit 1 kill. and home for 11pm. wasnt walking about like a zombie in work today for a change lol Quote Link to post
