Bushing with a terrier

Recommended Posts

Hi all, as some people might know from my threads, i dont hunt never have, and i recently got a plummer/lakeland cross, he is 9months now, and very keen for rabbits etc,

i recently got a breeding pair of boas (female is big and the male is a good size), so im thinking of trying bushing for rabbits, i dont need big bags im mainly looking to have abit of fun, and if i get some snake food while im at it great :victory:, im not interested in earth work etc and hopefully he wont go to ground for

any body regulary use terrier for this kind of work?

yea pat mate keeps them fit and if they get one evin better not that she gets alot mind

thats the main reason i want to try it, keep the dog happy and healthy, and if my snakes get a meal then great if not i can always get some anyway,

and im hoping this extra exercise along with his walks and bike rides will stop him diving into the local pond trying to get swans!!!! :icon_redface: luckily he doesnt try to kill them or bite them he just swims behind them and follows them daft sod

do you terriers also know that your not intrested in earthwork .?

with him being a dog im guessing no lol,

i perhaps should of re-phrased my op, what i mean is im just looking for something i can do that is fun and may bring a few rabbits without the hassle of digging him out all the time etc,

obviously i will always carry a shovel and i will get a location collar incase he does, but if he does go to ground i will probably stop doing it as i am only interested in catching a few rabbits

you will be fine mate, but it is a shit when a terrier enters a rabbit burrow, all kind of dangers can occur, but hopefully he is too big to enter burrows

will do lol, hopefully he wont but he seems to be completely fearless atm so knowin my luck he will fancy himself as a digger, he seems to have a great nose on him, and if he is sniffing around he seems to 'point' at things that interest him usually hedges he looks straight at it, front paw up and tail straight and head forward,

Do not encourage him around holes and it shouldn't show much interest in entering much. I use mine bushing/beating and have never encouraged him to enter any holes in the ground, he will have a sniff at the entrance but never enters as all he knows is his quarry is above ground. Comes from working parents too :) I'm not saying it will work for every terrier but it works for me.
