.22 rimfire

Recommended Posts

Hi, im 16 and have currently got a shotgun on my grandads licence. I was wondering at what age could i have a .22 rifle on my own locker. I know its 18 for a shotgun however im not to sure for the rifles. Any help?

Hi matey. Just to clear a few things up here, You can legally be given a shotgun as long as you have a SGC from the age 15 and over.

I am 16 and have got my FAC, you can be given a rifle that you have authority to aquaria when you reach the age of 14+

I'm a little puzzled. How exactly do you have one "on your grandads licence" ? You can own a shotgun from 15 on your own SGC, though you cannot buy it, nor can you purchase ammunition, until you are 18. It is legal to lend or gift a shotgun and ammunition to someone below the age of 18 as long as they hold an SGC.

With the FAC, you can hold a section 1 weapon, as whippeter says, from the age of 14 on your own FAC. You cannot, however, borrow a rifle under the estate condition until you are 18, so in theory to be able to use a section 1 firearm you either need to have it on an FAC, or be in a place that is an approved gallery range or shooting club.

I'd check the facts on what you "know" mate, as it's all chopped and changed recently, and what you've said doesn't sound quite right!
