JoeD 24
Just a general enquiry really, Do you need to complete your DSC before you apply for a firearms licence to take deer. I only ask as I am considering taking up target shooting for training and then when I am good enough I will want to take deer. So do I NEED to take my DSC or is it just reccomended. I have asked my ferreting permission holders if I can use there land for target shooting and eventually deer (if I get to that stage) and they are fine with that, as long as I sort out the lawfull side of things. Thanks, Joe Quote Link to post

Thanks, Joe There is NO legal requirement for a DSC and there in no specific requirement for a Deer Mentor either, however, the odds are you will need one or the other before your region allows Deer on your FAC, maybe even both! I just got my variation through for a 243 for fox and deer and dont need to have dsc or mentor ,all they did was phone the farmer to make sure I was allowed to shoot deer on his land.Hope this helps buddy and atb on your application. You are fortunate..is this ALL deer species? I too was fortunate some years back and I have no DSC at all. Makes you wonder really doesn't it...I have no apparent deer qualifications at all, yet the police are more than happy for me to accompany/train others to control deer, and have without fail positively responded to whatever I have told them about the applicant! There is only roe on the farm that they phoned however they never even asked what species I intended shooting. Quote Link to post
