bert the fert 28
good stuff That said, my albino hob has a tail problem. It's not rat tail though. I noticed a sore looking red patch with thinning hair on his tail a coupla weeks ago. He's lost his undercoat, just leaving the guard hairs, and you can see skin which is inflamed but i couldn't see any evidence of mites or fleas etc. The vet gave us some anti-bacterial, anti-fungal shampoo and an antibiotic course. Next step is skin swabs, which is looking likely cos it's not improving at all. Any of yours had this ? Quote Link to post

I've got a lurcher with demodectic mange, and when she has a flare up [ which is very rare ] her skin loses hair, but doesn't look as aggravated as Berts. Never had any experience of sarcoptic mange, but i guess skin swabs will say what's what. Quote Link to post

The ferret will scratch it and so make it aggrovated, do you see a kinda red/orange rust on the skin and scabby bits? One thing the swabs for the mange mites are very inconclusive, most come back negative even if they have it. Quote Link to post

It is a bit scabby though. So if the swabs come back negative, should i ask the vet to treat for mange anyway, d'you think ? Quote Link to post

If you cant come up with something else, it's worth a try i think. Do the inside of his ears look dirty? Quote Link to post

The redness is purely confined to his tail. I'll see what the vet thinks but as you say, if it's inconclusive then i'll get him treated for it. Cheers for the input, treasure It's much appreciated. Sounds less like mites the more you say. . . . . . some kind of reaction maybe? Or just that he has irritated it grooming it? Quote Link to post
