fresh earth 47
Every greyhound differ's in brains and stamina had an open class sprinter we use to flapp he could give 12 yards to a monky in a 300yrd sprint and be 4 lengths clear coming of the bend but he was often caught by other high class dogs in the last 30 yards of a 360yrd i recon one slip on a rabbit he would be burnt out for the nite we also had an old black bitch was a monky compared to anything else in the kennel but over the 800yrds she would come from the back and pass high grade sprinters and almost every nite she run she'd do a victory lap when the lure stopped i recon shed av run like a lurcher all nite. Big bald beautiful 1,231
racing breed whippet, very fast but utter shit, more brains in a baked bean. 6 runs and it was blowing out of its arse, looked the part for the first 6 but after that a waste. ran to a standstill after one hare. was from good racing lines, marillion, country music etc. Quote Link to post
wuyang 513
My whippet could deal with a good nights lamping, but tired quickly when chasing a hare up hill. Quote Link to post

runforyourlife 361
Isnt it funny, anyone says anything wrong about a whippet, and they all jump into protect them... Didnt see anyone jumping in to back the greyhound.. wheaton/bull x grey. the dog in question has very little stamina, and has to a big rest after every run.. Quote Link to post
Guest fence_hopper
seen a suluki x that was only good for a few runs. Quote Link to post

fresh earth 47
I backed the hound up as i said every pure hounds a different beast to the next i have seen hundreds as a parader and some could run 800yrd races twice a week even though no one obviously ever races a hound over 800yrds twice a week but some would have happily most lurchers are only running 100-200 max each slip with a break inbetween so a hound of that capability could do easy ten 100yrd slips getting its break inbetween. As for the whippet coment i have owned them all my life and ill never have a kennel without a couple i can walk all day ferreting hills and they will still be happy to take the evening walk with my mothers pets well the ones who made retirement . i rate the whippet highly as a more than capable and versatile little dog with as much if not more in some case's capability than a lurcher of the same size i also think if there were as many pure bred hounds worked it would be inevetable some would be more capable than any lurcher although you could go through 20 and not have one worth talking about nowadays. 1 Quote Link to post

I agree with you up to a point seen some really good whippet and Greys work well. But the the whole reason the lurcher evolved into these x's was largely due to the shortcomings of the aforementioned breeds ie stamina lack of coat etc. 1 Quote Link to post
feed the bear 13
seen a suluki x that was only good for a few runs. Never believing that..... admit it, you made that up right??? Quote Link to post
fresh earth 47
I totaly agree but in all fairness the greyhound was used as any lurcher is today before the track days they are a diff type nowadays and i do agree thats why the introduction of other dogs and the lurcher was done but there would have been a time any greyhound could have caught a rabbit a hare and tackle a fox now and then with ease but them days are gone .
