collie attacks child

Recommended Posts

The poor kid. Hopefully the plastic surgeans can patch him up pretty well. From what I read, he didn't loose an eye. Thats lucky at least.

I've been a medic for 20 years and have seen quite a few bad bites. Like many here have already said. It's not always pitbulls and GSDs.

poor kid . over the years ive had lots of dogs of different breeeds , ive also got 9 kids , they are never allowed to be unsupervised . i trust my dogs 99% round kids/people but its the 1% that worrys me . kids will be kids and a dog mite not take kindly to having a poke in the eye or its ears pulled . i think its rare a dog turns for no reason that why i dont even present an oppurtunity for anything to happen , id never fogive myself tbf .

about 7years ago my 12st rottie dog decided to have a pop at me , kids and freinds were in paddling pool, i picked up my 8yr old daughter out the water only to find the fecka hanging off my thigh . what then happened was

not good , it ended with me having 6 different sets of bite wounds and broken arm and a fair few stitches , theres many theories of the dogs motives but at end of day could of been 1 of me kids .

9 kids :icon_eek: have you no electricity :whistling:

I think alot of people chose a dog because of what they look like rather than looking at what they were bred for.

From what I have read dogs tend to revert back to their basic instincts when excited or nervous, my Lab for example will pick up the nearest object in this situation.

you lot are tragic

i know the people and dogs personally, it was an old old collie from a working environment that had never ever shown aggression in its life. it worked sheep most days with the other collies from the farm. the kid had played with it every weekend. and although no dog can be trusted 100% it would of been trusted as much as any other. it never showed aggression to anything, not even "its work!!"

it was a horrible accident that NOONE could see coming. dogs from a working environemnt just like ANYONE else.

  • 2 weeks later...

i have a border collie and she went 4 at the start of this month and she is the most placid thing i have ever seen. she has never and will never look like hurting any kids. (saying that im always there if she is round kids that she hasn't grew up with.) she has been my first dog and a pleasure, i started working sheep but the lady helping me went away so i couldnt do that anymore and she has picked up the odd rabbit on walks

Every dog that has ever attacked a child has probably had an owner who makes a similar statement.

No their owners say they will be right and go inside to leave the dog and children together which i will never do. Dogs and children dog mix (not without the right supervision). And if you know your dog will are able to remove it from the situation before if gets that annoyed. any PROPER owner should be able to tell what their dog is feeling.
