Glove leather dressing is it safe?

I was wondering if any people have had any problems with leather dressing such as Neats Foot Oil,i use this for all my leather furniture and gloves but a vet says its an iritant to birds,can any one put me straight about it;thanks

Don't know about it being an iritant, but I been told it make the leather to soft and rots stitching.
