Cage Trap Identification

Recommended Posts

Bought a job lot of Grey Squirrel feed hoppers the other day and the very nice gentleman threw in a couple of the large forestry commission multicatch squirrel cages and this hand made cage trap that I think may be a crayfish trap.......(as it came from a fishing lodge next to a reservoir). It has a bait compartment in the centre and has adjustable sloping ends. I am assuming that it is a crayfish trap........but not 100% sure to be honest. It had a long cord attatched to it so it is definately used underwater.......could it have been used for eels maybe? Any thoughts would be appreciated.....! Is it based on a well known design for instance?

my guess would also be a crayfish trap,iv seen them nearly the same as that but had two slopes either end, fitted top and bottom with a gap between them and a bait box in the centre,if its not sure we will soon know
