why are too many sub standard lurchers being bred? regardless of what you work your dogs im trying not to be to specific for obvious reasons. people go on about breeding dogs after a few seasons of hard work well why cant we have worked them on all quarry if they dont take all quarry then dont breed even if you only work rabbits. why does the all round lurcher have to be a myth why cant all lurchers be all rounders it doesnt mean you personnally have to work them that way but if someone else buys one at least they know it does the job. ive wasted too much money and been too naive but i wont be anymore i know what i want and will strive for it even if it takes time.i put a lot of work into my pups read all the books and give my dogs every opportunity when there ready but all ive had is failure.[ i dont have the luxury of a seasoned veteran to show the pup the way is that the problem id like some feed back on that]so back to the question why are people breeding below par dogs?

if you know what you want and you are willing to put the time in why not breed your own?

that way you can only blame youself for your failures..

atb dai.

i got a dog and none of the parents are working, she is 2 years old naww and working very well,

she works lamp real good straight back as soon as lamp goes off retrieves live to hand

Retrieves shot foxes,

and shes got a decent nose for marking  so who sais that you have to get a pup from working stock?

So you are telling me that if i take 100 dogs bred from long working lines and 100 dogs from lines of non workers then the success rate at working will be even in both groups? There is your answer.

thank you for all your replys i know what i want im glad you all happy with your dogs im not thats me i dont do big bags i let the dog take its time ready when ready as they say i like a wide variety of quarry but no specialised lurcher to me a lurcher is a pot filler and a pest/vermin controller maybe i do set my standards high but as you say different is interesting

what deerhound greyhound as said is his dog as come from none working parents, they could be pets from working strains not every pup bred from working parents ends up in working homes. just because a dog doesnt work it dont been it isnt well bred.

below par dogs are they below par?who says so .one mans meat is another mans poison.in my opinion as long as you enjoy yourself and you are happy with your dog that is it.everyones opinion of a good dog differs.just as some people dig some lamp some ferret and so on.each to there own.good luck with your dogs mate hope you find what you are looking for alb

Ive always varied my hunting through the year and the dogs have always done the same i choose singlehanded coursing types and start them ferreting and mouching then onto the lamp and finally flushing when the winter sets in and the grounds hard at night if there big enough they can do most things and do them well atb.
