FightTheBan 1,147
So from what you say a fen bred dog is more suited to run the further north you go??? That's got to be the biggest load of pish I've ever had the misfortune of reading.... I would agree with that. I have read the post a few times, and still cannot make any sense from it. Belive the dogs have caught more than their fair share during the day pal as well as night Can only go with the pictures you put up and err your word on the rest.... as you say, the pictures speak for themselves....... waste of good hares if you ask me.... lamping only leads to injuries and I don't know many folk with a good daytime hare dog uses it for lamping... but hey ho..... Terrie 12
you are entitled to you opinion as is every one else im just staying mine! better being lamped than shot no? but still there we go thats another debate lamping/ day ? any way my point has been stated. As for lamping leading to injuries i must have been lucky as have only had a couple of misfortunes none more than what you would throught the day (some where during the day) Quote Link to post

I know of mongrels that'll catch hares on the lamp... I suppose you only take your camera out at night........ right? Quote Link to post
Terrie 12
no not at all just at the time was better to lamp as i said my partner had poults and to be honest i prefer lamping to day time! But thats just me. my point was that saluki crosses can catch hares in scotland not just on the fens as so it has been stated. what you trying to state? what cause my pics are of lamping that my dogs are less worthy to some "wonder day time dogs?" I dont usually take the camrea actually the pics were taken when we got back not that thats of any impotance. Quote Link to post
runforyourlife 361
All those thousands of rabbits my old couring dog cought up the rugged yorkshire dales , must have been a dream Tomo, never once did i say it wasnt possible..... never once.... As my dogs do it up there regular.... T howley has just sold a good dog, in fact he said it was the best bitch he has ever seen, and he's seen alot hasnt he mate... Do you think it would have been worth that money, had he took the buyer to watch it up there!! Why do people twist things around on here.... And who ever mentioned BLUE HARES on rugged moorland, well come on, a fit doberman could catch them! nobodys twisting things round, this is what you wrote you bring an out and out fen dog(running 3 in 3) to my neck of the woods mate, and it would do nothing apart from break its legs!! so my reply was to above statement LOL tomo....... Wouldn't worry too much about what run from your wife says mate, he was on the fishing section claiming all scottish lochs are 20 miles + When he was proved wrong his response was, well the ones I fish are!!! HAW HAW HAW..... As the fen guys like to tell us.... unless you run in Scotland regular.... keep your f*****g opinions to you yourself!!! FEED THE HARE, i was agreeing with you, and i think what you have said is correct.... I said the dogs wouldnt make easy of the hare,(when i said the good fen dogs wouldnt do it) and i do run in scotland, not reguarly but i do.... And as for the lochs, lol, i did mean the lochs i fished, i to have fish some cracking small waters in scotland, in fact most of them, and the majority produce better fish than the bigger ones. Anyway ATB Run for your wife. Quote Link to post

Terrie 12
i have never claimed my dogs to be great of any sort so you can wind you neck back in pal Quote Link to post
runforyourlife 361
Interesting topic..... I remember one day we were in scotland with the saluki greys and the bag was 8 browns and 11 white (if i can remember correctly). So it can be done single handed. I think its a bit of a broad statement to say that no saluki/greys cannot catch on the rugged land. I have seen it with my own eyes, as well as photographed it too.... Happy Hunting....JD Darcy, we didnt say they couldnt do. Just they wouldnt be as good as the dogs what are adapted to it, and a out and out fen dog would lose some of its credibility running on the moors and highlands of the north.... A lot of the lads who have been about and we both know who live in our area, wouldnt run their dogs around here, correct me if i am wrong.... And remebering that the days you have out are different than a lot of ours on here. Private estates, keepered land, all with permission, its much easier when you were allowed to walk tall, rather than creeping through bushes... Quote Link to post
