Wardyuk 0
Hi When out walking my 10 month out whippet(My first dog), it is quite often that he discovers himself or i see a bunny for him to chase. Its becoming frustrating that he gets very close, but not close enough. I understand that hes only young and still learning but the thing that i believe is letting him down is the fact that he barks when chasing. It appeared at first that it was an excited bark, but now i think its becoming aggressive because he is becoming frustrated when he doesnt catch a rabbit. He is a very game dog and doesnt give up easily, but the cover at the minute is very thick and he does everything alone. My questions are..... Has anybody else had problems with their dog barking after rabbits? Is it a problem? What can i do to try and stop it or will it disappear over time? Thank you Quote Link to post

Thank you bit of a tough call tbh some yap as they are excited some as they are just not quick enough imho i would ease up a bit so the dog dont get pissed off with not catching anything try him on a couple 1 or 2 times a week but dont over run him take ya time with it.. but many will do it differently atb whippetlad Quote Link to post
barnslyben 74
give him a few easy one s . sometimes started too young can cause yapping.or lay him off them for a bit until a bit more mature ,its a hard habit to break once they start BB Quote Link to post
Wardyuk 0
Thanks for the replys, think i will leave off them for a while, then when i go ferreting in a few weeks we'll see what hes up to then. I have seen people advertising collars that give them a shock when he barks?? Didnt want him to be a silent dog or him to think that hes gettin shocked everytime he chases a rabbit! Simoman 110
Give it lots of easy bunnys on the lamp and stop letting him get frustrated at hard daytime rabbits. Unfortunatly many whippets are prone to a yap and the odds are it wont get better................ Quote Link to post

ATB with it. Running with an older dog will make it worse because he will be beat to the quarry everytime and get more frustrated. It's all about taking it slow and steady and giving him lots of easy success with squatters on the lamp on a good windy, rainy night. Quote Link to post
