Its time for a new motor and I have 5-6 grand to spend. What 4x4 would you recommend, I need it for work during the week and do approx 500 miles so needs to be reliable and nothing to juicy,

At weekends I need to get dogs and guns in and be able to get where I want although nowhere too extreme.

Was looking at double cabs but they seem so big, I would prefer a SWB of some kind, would apprieciate any ideas or suggestions.

I dont think any of the big 4x4's are freindly on the pocket when it comes to fuel consumption, seen a few subaru foresters when out and about and i think one of them could be next on my list.

Stay away from them they are SHITE  Axles, wheel bearing's,gear box the lot all fail to fast

I'd try and get a decent looked after discovery for your money, if pickups are too big for you..

TD5 or 4 ive had both and the biz

They dont do a Discovery with a TD4 mate, they were in the Freelanders. Doing 500 miles a week whatever 4x4 you get in your price range is not going to be cheap on the wallet with fuel..... Unless you go down this route, I would get a defender, convert it to run on veg oil then start asking around your local chip shops and restrants for their old oil!! Fuel cost then would be £0

easy mate.... nissan terrano. even the long wheel base isnt too big. depending on the model theres no timing belt or chain as the stuffs run by majic.....(gears). on the forum i often read of people running neet veg oil at 87p a litre with no probs and they can run at 100% veg oil in the summer... very good off road, run for 200.000 miles (diesel) and can do 30 mpg if driven correctly..

do your homework and just dont take my word as i have been wrong before :whistling:
