EastTyrone 2
was traveling through local forest last week and noticed alot of activity going through the forest, flashing lights and hazard lights on vehicles. We stopped for a wile and noticed a few vehicles pulling into the forest car park from the middle of the forest roads with a trailer load of deer to be gutted out. It was obvious these were men from the forestry comission as they were going aloong small forests roads where there was locked gates. I am quite shocked at this as the government talks about proper deer management and how its illegal for deer to be lamped and here they are out doing it themselvves irrespective of managing a strong and wild herd of deer. nastybilly 55
perfectly legal for forestry stalkers to do this on a night licence and out of season ticket if deer are deemed to be doing damage ..the rights and wrongs are for the individual to decide for themselfs Quote Link to post

matt_hooks 188
"Night" as specified by the deer act begins 1 hour after sunset. I'm not sure what day it was you saw these guys, but official sunset tonight in Belfast (I'm assuming from your name that you're near there) will be at 3 minutes to 8, making shooting deer legal up to three minutes to 9. Now it's more than possible that these deer could have been shot just before 9. Also, as stated, it is possible to get a licence to shoot deer at any time, if they are a proven problem. The forestry guys will often shoot late on, as this means less risk to the public from shooting activities, and less risk of members of the public stumbling across shot deer or seeing big trailers full of deer and assuming the worst.
