Benjamin Discovery

Recommended Posts

Hi I am a newby to this forum, and a newby for owning a .22 cal.Benjamin Discovery air rifle. I have been doing a bit of research on various web sites, getting information about my new gun, watching you tube clips etc. and deciding on what type of pellets to use for best results for rabbits and rats etc. One website gave a calculation chart for working out what pellet gave the most output for a given velocity.

Taking the ft/per/sec velocity of my gun being a claimed 900ft/per/sec,using a pellet with a weight of 21.25 grains, which was the H&N Diabolo Baracuda, the final calculation was that this gun needed a Fire Arms Certificate. Is this true, as the shop that sold it to me say's that any gun sold in the U.K must be below 12ft/pounds and therefore does not need an F.A.C. So who is right. Are the figures that I am working on correct, do I need an F.A.C for this gun.

I value your comments.

Hi, mate and welcome.

There's not too many of those in the UK they're really ment for markets with either a much higher or no power limit on airguns.

On the assumption that you bought it from a proper dealer, the gun should've been lowered for the UK. The figures you're looking at are for the full power version and not the castrated ones we get over here.

That said, if in doubt, have it checked.

Cheers.

Thanks for your replies chaps. I have contacted the shop where I bought it from, they have assured me that it would have been restricted to the UK market regulations and therefore not required to have an FAC. Having found that out, what would I need to do to de-regulate it. Having watched some video footage on You Tube of guys using this type of gun, I'm sure they must be much more powerful than this one. To break a glass bottle from 100 meters is no mean feat.

It's not good form to ask how to raise it's power above the limit on this forum, mate. The powers that be take a very dim view of it....

Get your FAC then one of the lads may be able to help you via PMs. It's really not info that can be plastered all over a public forum for all to see.

Cheers.

Get it Chronoed

Preferably by someone from this forum or a club near you

If you were to take it to another shop and they chronoed it for you and it was producing an ME over the Sub12 limit, the shop would be duty bound to confiscate it and pass it over to the authorities.

If it is done by someone you know with a chrono and its over, you can then take action to have it reduced.

I take it you didn't get the box and instructions with it.

Surely they would have tested it rather than just assumed it had been lowered :wallbash:

I am assuming they are talking about AirGuns. Even so the above statement is Bull Pucky.

If you have an FAC with a spare slot you can walk into a shop and buy an FAC rated Airgun

Darryl

Thanks Darryl for your offer, I'm a bit away from you I live in Herefordshire. I had to take my gun back to the shop today as a recurring fault cropped up again. The bolt kept sticking and unless brute force was used no way could you load the pellet. Not how it should be in my book.I had fitted a Hawke HD Sport 50mm scope and had only used the gun to set it up, plus one woody kill in the garden. I can't wait to get it down to a new venue I've arranged with a local farmer
