Reflex moderator problem

Recommended Posts

I recently bought my mates CZ .243 with T8 reflex moderator. The problem is my mate rarely removed the mod and now it has welded itself to the barrel. I have tried flooding the mod wit WD40 for a fewdays and this didnt shift it. Has anyone any suggestions on how I might shift it without damaging the mod or barrel,or is it a job for the gunsmith. Could this already caused irreversable damage?

Cheers

You can try pouring boiling hot water over the silencer at the area where it is attached to the gun, theory is the silencer will expand enough

to release its self.I would have said a heat torch but that may damage the silencer.Best of luck!

Don't use water !! i would use penertating oil put between barrel and mod fill to the top and leave barrel down, for 4-7 days [ in a container of some sort], by then the level should have dropped empty out oil.

Then use an OIL filter removal tool [ the belt one ] it add's leverage then it should move .

If not BEFORE you damage the mod get to the range and shoot some shots off to heat uo the barrel ! Try the filter tool again.

Good Luck

I don't think I would be putting any rounds through it myself, if its proper rammed on I would guess it may well be cross threaded in which case it won't be bang in line with the barrel, also the barrel will heat up and expand faster than the mod so it will make it harder to shift.

I agree with the previous poster stick a shed load of WD40 in it and try a oil filter wrench.

If that I think I would probably take it to the gunsmith yes it might cost you a couple of quid but it will be much cheaper than knackering the rifle or mod.

If he's had it on there that long then it will be rusted on,the mod will retain moisture after shooting, and, the thread is bare metal so will rust as quick as feck.I know someone that had the same problem, and,I think he put the mod in a vice in the end with the aid of a gunsmith. If you are going to put anything down the barrel to try to release it then I would suggest 'Kroil' it is a very good creep oil,and after a few days of dripping some on the barrel to run down onto the thread it might/should be a bit easier.......good luck though it won't be easy.

Martin is right. Kroil is the stuff for it, WD40 is like piss compared to it. Reloading Solutions used to carry it, most likely still do. If that don't work then gunsmith.

Personally I would have the bore inspected at a gunsmiths, if that's OK then chop the last inch of the barrel and get a recrown and screw cut. Not sure how the mod will fare out.

I'd put money the crown is pitted to sh1t, and I'd be concerned about the condition of the bore.

Not much point in telling ya should have checked before buying

Presuming you get it sorted out, get some copper grease for the threading and a thread protector made up. After every use spray some WD40 into the mod (while off the rifle) from the front end, roll the WD40 around inside it well. I store my T8 in a slightly oily sock also. Never, ever store the mod on the rifle. If it get's wet, dry over a stove or radiator well before putting away. Look after your crown, make sure it's clean after every use.

The problem is with the powder residue, it mixes with moisture and forms a nasty acid sh1t that eats your gun! WD40 is supposed to drive out moisture (it doesn't lubricate like an oil). Drying out is another aid in combating the acid effects.

It would also be worthwhile undoing the rear bush and pulling it back down the barrel out of the way so that you can run the oil down the barrel into the correct area.

Thats what ive already been doing, its been flooded with wd40 for weeks and still wont budge
