skycat 6,173
When you say she is walked, what exactly do you mean? On the lead only? In town only? She needs a mixture of free running and lead walking AND training: EVERY DAY! She also needs to have plenty of "you" time, if she is an only dog, where you are giving her your FULL attention, not just wandering along with the dog on the lead. Puppies of this age need constant stimulation unless they are asleep. Try and tire her out mentally more than physically. Play retrieving games with her, hide things for her to find: if she is as clever as you say she will really benefit from doing problem solving games. And that will sharpen up her brain for work when she grows up. Try and take her to as many new places as possible, meet as much livestock/other dogs/people etc as possible. Lastly: what are you feeding her?: it has been proven that a diet full of additives can hype up children: it does the same for some dogs, and a lot of commercial dog foods are crammed with additives for colour.taste etc. Quote Link to post

red merle 0
How playfull were you at six years old? Hopefully your parents didn't share the same attitude and get rid of you! You should'nt exspect so much at such a young age, this is where this site is priceless hopefully now you will take the good advise people have given you and in time own yourself a working dog. Good luck Quote Link to post
marko 30
it isnt a race to get to the finishing line first it sounds to me like she is just starting her apprenticeship let her arse about and do what she wants before you know it she will change right before your eyes the pup looks a belter and with that cross will be quite intelligent and will get bored easily make sure she gets out as often as possible and give her plenty to do so she doesnt get bored if you have other dogs or a partner in crime get out with him as much as you can so the young dog can take it all in,my dog is still mad as a hatter and she is 18mths old however when the boots and coat go on she knows the score and changes her attitude i have had her ratting she likes squirrels she works the cover with the rest of the gang and has started to mark very well at the moment she is learning the lamp as i dont have a lot of rabbiting permission i aint rushing her just bringing her on easy, i also take her out with the gun and have her retrieving for me,hopefully she will be part of the team for a long while barring any misshaps which can happen, this is why i dont rush my dogs let them come on at their own pace enjoy the journey Edited December 12, 2006 by marko Quote Link to post
