What height do you set your long nets at when working at night?

Someone sugested that a foot high will still catch rabbits effectivley at night.

What do you belive to be the absoulute bear minimum.

I don't see why a net 12" in height will not catch rabbits at night. Snares are set a couple of inches lower and they seem to do all right. The only problem I could see with a 12" height is that the rabbits would be hitting the top of the net before they are standing properly on the net.

My nets are usually between 15 and 18 inches all depends on how hard the ground is.

i have mine 16/18 inch hight but on a hill they will go lower as the top line will be closer to the crest of the hill so about 10/12 high. i have had rabbits jump over hemp nets in daylight thou

Yes i have seen them clear rabbit fencing that has been set a tad to low.

At night when taking flight i presume they dont see a low set net until it's to late. :hmm:

Hi all I had my nets at 22 inches and dropped them down to 18 i tought that the rabitts were hitting the net verry high up and they were bringing down the head lines 22 inches is good, then every body has their own way of fixing their nets i suppose whatever works best.

a net set 12 inches high will catch rabbits, however when even one rabbit is caught between two pegs the top line will be pulled down low to the ground (even if line is heavily tensioned) allowing other rabbits to hop over net, the top line will be pulled down very low no matter how high the net is set when rabbits are enmeshed, however varying aspects such as uneven terrain will mean when net is set so low as 12 inches on the flat it will be even lower where ground rises between pegs, also in high grass rabbits will be moving at a greater height as well, the correct height to set a net is really a compromise between what's suitable for catching and what's comfortable to use, nets set very high mean the top line does not pull down as low but it does reduce the bagging as well vertically in the net and long pegs can be uncomfortable to carry and unwieldly to use, i use 23-24 inch hazel pegs (traditional style) which means net is set about 18 inches high, i find this a good all-round compromise taking all aspects into consideration, please note that i am referring to netting after dark, as during daylight such as ferreting etc longer pegs are then more suitable.
