Lockable containter for ammunition.

Recommended Posts

The law doesn't state that a seperate safe or container is needed for ammo, just that it needs to be kept secure. I understand, however, that home office guidlines dictate all firearm ammuntion should be kept seperate from the firearms. I do have a secure, heavy duty safe which should do the job well, however it's not bolted to any wall, and to be honest I don't want to go drilling holes in the wall again unless it's really necessary.

Cheers.

Anyone?

Well mate what i have done is bought 1 of those small digital locking safes( get them in most D.I.Y stores) and bolted it the top of my gun cabinet. Completely solid and keeps everything in the one place.

same here, I have my HMR ammo in a fire safe which just sits on the floor, let's be honest, it's not like you can just pick that damn thing up and run with it, it weighs a ton!, plus you've got to wrestle it out from under the starirs and out the door. hmm I don't think so. if you're unsure just ask the FEO, I'm sure it'll be fine though.

I guess it's me being dumb again but I'm a bit confused, are you talking shotgun or rifle cartridges, there is a significant difference in the law?

Did your FEO not inspect your cabinet/storage arrangements at the time of Grant?

Cheers

Hi Deker,

I'm still waiting for the grant of my FAC, but already have a cabinet for the shotgun and air rifle. I understand the rifle and it's ammunition must be kep secure, however home office guidelins state I need a seperate container for the ammo. I have a heavy duty safe which should do fine, I just don't want start drilling it to things.

Now I'm with you, yep, rifle ammo needs to be seperate secure storage, but this can be within the main cabinet.

Many Rifle cabinets have a seperately lockable area within the main cabinet, but not so many shotgun cabinets have this feature of course!!

My cabinet doesn't have the integral ammo locker. Ha, I guess I could just stick the ammo safe inside my cabinet lol.

Looks like I'm going to have to get the old drill out again then.
