Dress smart-casual when you first approach.

What ever you do DON'T turn up with gun in hand and wearing a ghilli suit or even realtree or DPM.

When approching them, something along the lines of

"Hello there Sir/Madam,

I was passing some of your fields when out for a walk the other day and noticed that you have a lot of wild rabbits/wood pigeons or whatever on your land.

I couldn't help but notice how much damage they have caused/are causing to your land / crops etc, and wondered if you might like some help in keeping their numbers down to a more tolerable level so the damage is minimised.

I am more than happy to help you out with doing this Free of charge.

No need to say yes or no now, heres my number, have a word with your other half and get back to me if you'd like the free help that I offer"

If they say no thanks there and then, fair enough, pass them your number (on a card or letter to land owner that you were going to post through their box if they were out) and mention, that your available in the future if they should decide otherwise. Be prepared to wait and wait and wait, dont pester them!

Another good idea is to mention that you have Public Liability Insurance to the tune of (however many million pounds your cover is for) if you don't have any, GET SOME Quick!

There are hundreds of places to try, even just being in the right place at the right time can land you permission, like the guy in the take away t'other day.

I got my 1st verbal permission because my daughter just happened to leave her trainers at home that she needed for her gym class at school!

Comming back I saw a guy in a horse paddock cutting the grass, had a bit of a natter about the day, the horses then onto the rabbits and corvids and hey presto I offered to shoot em for him and he agreed. I've not had to ask for anymore since then as its come word of mouth apart from the cemetery. Got that by mentioning to the Archdeacon about the damage the bunnies were doing to the graveyard, Six months later out of the blue I got an email from the local church asking me to meet up and tell them how I was going to operate. Job done.

If you want to be much more proactive, have a search through Davy63t's posts theres a hell of a list of ideas of where to try there, a goldmine to read through

Good luck

Excellent reply Phantomthumbs.gif, The pheasant season will be here soon, so offer your services beating and you will get to know landowners and the keepers on shoot days then ask them about a bit vermin control with the air rifle, if they say yes but after the seasons finished then it will be a foot in the door. Once you get your first bit of permission make sure you do a good job and the farmer see's you regularly as he will tell his friends about you when they mention vermin problemsvictory.gif. Good luck and don't give up
