Those temporary gates made with barbed wire are bad news.

As a kid I had a pony wrapped up in barbed wire. He was fine, he had the sense to stand still while we got him free. My mother had a dog run a tight barbed wire fence after deer (few years ago now) she ripped a few bits on her but was fine. Didn't need stitches or anything. Lucky.

the people who put it up localy beats me as there not much livestock localy, i wished it was banned , or some sort of licence for it and the damage for it barb wire cost a few quid on clothes vets etc , its got its uses for cattle etc but thats all i can see

its horrible stuff my dogs only 19" and has a habbit of just running straight under it and ripping the top of her back open. but there is no other way farmers can keep livestock in appart from with electric fences, you get cattle under presure and they will soon try and jump a post and rail fence.

I find that where barbed wire has been put up it gets left there, even when its not longer needed: round the common land where I exercise( ) my dogs there is no end of old barbed wire fences: it used to be farmland before there were gravel pits, and now it is mostly nature reserves and fishing lakes the same old barbed wire is still there: rusting, sagging, in loops etc: deadly dangerous to running dogs. The worst was when 3 dogs went through the same piece of sagging wire at speed after something: result? One broken tail, one torn back, one ripped leg: cost us a fortune at the vet's. :censored: On the plus side, my dogs are so used to wire that 99% of the time they jump over, slide through or under it: it does make them careful most of the time once they've run into it as little pups when they aren't going fast enough to cause damage.

whoever invented it shouldve had their arse wiped with it, :censored: my lurchers are 22.5/23 inch and they both have there fair share of scars. one day the whippet and lurchers jumped from a hedge over the pignet and barb fence, when the terrier followed suit he caught his foreskin on a barb and ripped it, it made my eyes water :blink: and he squelled everytime he took a piss for the next 2 days
