Contact the MFHA and ask to put your name on the jobs list. Its prob a bit early in the year tho, hunt jobs start from 1st May.

Also look in back of horse and hound especially Feb onwards. If your really serious and dont mind moving then there is no reason you cant get a kennelman job tho the way of life is not one to be undertaken lightly.

cheers dido. got in touch with MFHA so wait to hear back from them. you talking from experience saying that it not the greatest life? i know it'd be hard work with little thanks for it. but i'd just love hearing about a good display from the hounds after a hunt day, knowing they were the hounds i take care of, know what i mean??

I never said not the greatest life just not something to start if ur not 100 per cent commited. My years in hunt service were something i'll never regret and even tho people say there is no thanks in the job i think there was, real hunting people even if they arnt large in numbers will always reconise what you do behind the scenes. Good luck.

if you know anyone in hunt service talk to them, it is a way of life, i had a good few years in kennels, some where good to work for others total tossers,so be prepared for long hours, little pay,and remember if your at the bottom of the ladder, the only way is up, but its not easy and everything that goes wrong will be your fault,my first job in kennels was the worst, the accomadation was shite, the pay was worse and there was little hunting for me, just a pile of deadstock, and a nice view from the flesh house, i stuck with it, the only thing that kept me going was having my running dog to go out with, and some huntsmen dont even like them,so do your homework, its not romantic, its fekking hard work, spending allday skinning and coming back stinking of death, flopping into bed and before you know it, its time to do it all again, they will shout and ball at you, tell you your useless, i was once told that was the huntsmans perogative, i think it makes

you think, that when you get to that position yourself you wont treat people like that, there is no need for it, if you beat a horse or a dog it will never respect or work for you, same as people, so mate goodluck, its a good life but a hard one.

just a thought pal as all the above advice seems to be from people that have been there and got the tee shirt but if ya that struck on doing it as a career then surely ya must have been following a pack and if ya been regular they will know ya face so speak to them and ask if ya can help out on weekends etc. it will give ya an insight into the life/job and also hunts are quite a close knit thing and people talk to each other so if a job is comming up ya will prob hear about it before others see the ad in H&H

good luck stick at it and you will get it
