Guest baldie
So because you dont like firearms, we should all give them up and get more dogs? bollocks. Easy to say when youre in Eire, we have a ban on hunting with dogs here. Some places you just cannot use a dog. Quote Link to post
jpnixon 7
TO BE TOTALLY HONEST I DON'T THINK THAT THIS IS A GOOD THREAD TO BE WRITING ON AS SOME MIGHT FIND PLEASURE IN TAKING CERTAIN POST OUT OF IT. Quote Link to post
Yokel Matt 918
I think that each method of control has its place and is equally satisfying . Some areas can't be shot because of safety issues wheras covering a large area with dogs is impratical. What is annoying is sweeping statements sledging one method for another. "hang the fox up on the land owners fence and make it look like there just out shooting vermin and doing it for the sport but when infact they are out shooting enything they can take to the game dealer and make cash" What a load of crap ... thats the sort of bullshit i'd expect to read in the Guardian not a hunting forum from a fellow hunter. Quote Link to post

micheal rennicks 17
my view on this is when you go out,you look at your dog as much as you look at the quarry.so your testing both, its a culmination of rearing your dog from pup to watching him work.this is where your huntmen differ.personally dont like guns, but everyone to there own. Paid 935
Parts are certainly over hunted, but if you look hard enough, you can always find some where to run your dog, pop out with the ferrets or take your rifle. Quote Link to post
whin 463
for me my pet hate is summer time hunters and dog men rifle men , ive even heard guys say we work the dogs in summer young cubs leverets rabbits same with gun men localy if the price or roe went up they would be out poaching with high powerd rifles and on shoot day they would beat the same ground and if mentioned someone was about it would be that guy with the dogs or another guy with the gun grasssing lowlife ,anything to peee he the lairds or gamies etc thats what fechs it up here, were i am , i would rather take a guy out from miles away than some prune localy nowadays Quote Link to post
poacherjim 0
in my opinion. being one who has never owned a gun,if the rabbit population has exploded and a quick fix is needed then a high powered rifle is the best option but if its for sport then i dont see the point in shooting a lamped rabbit as you may as well just throw a load of tin cans into a field during the day then go at night sneak up on them and shoot em if you lived up here youd know what it was like to have field upon field of nothing!! and i mean nothing over hunted and shot to pieces there used to be a field near me that always flooded at this time of year and it was always full of ducks now you dont even see one SHOT TO PIECES by wannabee john waynes Quote Link to post

Your arguement, despite being a massive generalisation and blinkered on dog running, seems to be more having a pop at people who can afford to stand on a peg or drive a 4wd . Its the 'class' issue that has got hunting with dogs and hunting in general into such a mess. Whether its 'toffs on a nag' or slipping a whippet on a hare a full ban on dog hunting is waiting in the wings and i sure the 'pissed up john wayens' are just as worried as the rest of us. Like i said earlier, slagging other methods of control in favour of your own is totally unconstructive. Each to their own and all that but don't start mouthing off and have a pop at my sport just because you enjoy another. Quote Link to post
Guest oldskool
well put mate :thumbs-up: Quote Link to post
whin 463
its not slagging its just the truth ,im afraid ,there no class issue as i to and have the money to stand at apeg any day or hunt with a hound etc or ride , and they is instead of putting names or places etc forward , the pissd up john waynes havent been at the hunting game long enough to MAKE IT PART OF THERE LIFE AND WENT THROUGH THE PAIN BARREIR FOR THERE WAY OF LIFE, IVE GOT A LOT OF LAND LOCALY FOR SHOOTING BUT LET THE BROTHER INLAW TAKE HIS GUNS HE ENJOYS IT NOTHING AGAINST SHOOTING ,IVE SHOT WOOD PIDGEONS BOLTING RABBITS ROUGH DAYS , but i know were i get my enjoyment from , from trainig a pup to a standard till you see him turn into something , as i says anybody can buy a gun get alicence and shoot if they have the legal req , to me hunting with dogs ferrets hawks is natural all living beasts that have to be manned ,were agun you dont fee dit etc and any body can buy one book ashoot hey presto ,this is not an argument it is a disscusion built only round facts localy Quote Link to post
