Weird session 01092010

Hi guy's,

Decided to get outta the house yesterday and go enjoy the warm day after I went to see the nurse for my latest Jab.

So when I got home, stuck the laptop away, got my gear out pumped my baby up and offskie a hunting I did go :gunsmilie:

The trouble with being so eager is that sometimes I forget to grab whats needed, but I had the Gun, pellets, Water, lamp, last set of charged batteries (new charger on way from HK as missus bust the old one throwing it at me) and LRF so the basics were covered.

Wandering over the Hocky/footy pitch I noticed there were five or six full growns munching on the grass at the side and near the goal posts. Its Council land as far as I am aware so no shooting on it. I got to the newley ploughed (well sometime last week) field thats next door to the cricket club and noticed only a few out at the far end nay the road embankment. This didn't worry me as it was a scorcher of a day and until I get hold of the appropriate person, I won't shoot that either, good thing though is I now know who to contact, but its trying to get hold of them thats the problem :wallbash:

So across the road I went and had a look in the horse paddock. No sign of any bunny even along the side that adjoins the cemetery and bunnyland

Walked around to the cemetery entrance and not a sign there either, so continued on to Mrs G's :D Allways bunnies there

Looked over her fence and saw two young uns give it legs towards her front garden so made my way to the house and knocked to let her know I was there; thats the only condition of the permission other than I don't shoot the ferral cats! As if I would :D

Anyways wandered round to whats left of the back garden and hey presto One adult sat catching some rays.

Quickly I backed up against the wall of the house, open the slip, stick a pellet in the pipe look at the dials on the scope, good to go :gunsmilie: Moved away from the wall with my baby shouldered and scope on max mag. Swinging the gun round and my left eye open and B :censored: x, its gone! Not a sign must have heard me unzip the gun slip and decided its a sound that it knows means death to the bunny populus.

So without further adoo, I made my way over to the little sniping spot I've made under the little Oak tree, litterally feet away from the A63. It allows me a good clear field of fire of almost 90 degrees covering the entire meadow back to the back garden. Anything that strays withing 50 yards of my face is a walking dead thing  so I got myself settled and waited patiently for an hour and a half, not a whisker not even from the ferrals. This is very strange on this land. Had a couple of swigs of the wet stuff and had a stalk towards the front garden. Not Ideal as the wind was blowing from the west making sure my scent got to the garden long before I did. It took me 10 minutes to slowly wander over peeking through the scope to see if there was any sign of life. Naddah, zilch damn!

Made my way across the front lawn and the wind changed directions, now it was blowing from the East, this was going to be impossible, dont even know why I'm trying it :wallbash:

As I got to the side garden that adjoins the cemetery I noticed one half grown over toward the orchard. Easy shot this one crosshair on its noggin from standing and the pellet was on its way a superb clean MISS!

Went right over its noggin feck! Wandered over to the orchard and grabbed a couple or three big juicy dark purple Plumbs and made my way back to my sniping point. That was the last bunny I saw until 4 hours later when I stood up to look over the fence into the paddock. there were a dozen or so bunnis partying about 70 ish yards away and one bunny about 60 yards away right at the side of the orchard on the wrong side of the fence  No chance of getting a clean shot leaning over a chain link fence, so A quick stalk over to the back garden and a quiet approach to the chain fence. I leaned over cautiously trying to make sure the fence would not transfere the noise of my movements down to the bunny.

It was still sat there muching grass at about 35 yards and the light was fading.

I placed the crosshair just above the back of the ear and gently squeezed the trigger. The bunny made a huge leap forward, landing on its side dead. :toast: Now that to me was a challenging shot for such a nominal distance due to the constant movement of the fence and the almost facing away position of the bunny.

Now the hard part was going to be the recovery of the bunny, couldn't be assed to go all the way round so I grabbed a dead branch from a tree and pulled the bunny back towards the fence. Took a good 10 minutes and would have deffo been quicker if I'd walked all the way round and cut through the cemetery. Must ask if I can put some gates on the fences so I can move between each permission with ease

Got the bunny back to the fence and had to reach out under the "Bunny Run" to get my prize.

Here it the trophy shot, one to remember for me  Total time = 6 and a half hours, two shots one bunny!

Not a lot for the time spent, but it was a nice time culminating in a great shot.
