JonathanKent 16
Hi All, Quick question, I sold one of my .22LR rifles and I put in a one for one variation to a .17HMR. Long and short of it I heard from the FEO today (5 weeks after sending off my licence!) he say that for a variation he MUST come out to see me. This is not the same way my friends (different FEO) have been treated. Is it true that for a one-for-one the FEO must visit? Sounds like bull to me. Your advice and experience please! matt_hooks 188
As Dan says, a one for one exchange is where the weapon is substantially the same as the one you're taking off. A .17 is very different to a .22, so he will want to know what your "reasonable cause to hold" is. The FEO doesn't matter. This stuff is all laid down in policy by the individual forces. One force might do it differently to another, but all the FEO's within an individual force should all do it the same. I'd say that most forces would require a visit to add a .17 to the ticket, even if it means removing another calibre, especially a lower powered one. Quote Link to post
JonathanKent 16
Sorry chaps but this is not what I have been told, nor is it what I have done. I was told by Kent Police and by the Fire Arms Dealer that if I dispose of a rifle, when I send in my licence I can apply for a rifle of a different calibre on a one for one basis and that there is no fee payable for doing so. This is what I have done and the police are happy with this. My queries is that the FEO stated he Must come out and see me for a one for one variation and to be frank I find this odd, I have slots for three rifles at present two .22LR rifles and a 22.250 all I have asked for permission to change is one of my .22 rifles for a .17hmr. To me it seems like a very small change, especailly as I am deemed safe to possess a 22.250. It seems like beurocracy simple for the point of it and another days annual leave down the drain waiting around the house! Its just all so bloody frustrating! ATB Jonno Quote Link to post

ATB Jonno Your FEO can tell you whatever he wants, and unfortunately he is perfectly within his rights to come and see you at any reasonable time to discuss anything Firearms related he likes with you. Such is life. Please let us know what the meeting was about when all is done. Quote Link to post
JonathanKent 16
I shouldn’t be so quick to worry and complain! Had a really useful meeting with the FEO this morning. He gave me the okay on my variation straight away before he even sat down. After we had a chat about a couple of driven shoots locally, I gave him a letter about some new permissions I have been given he turned round and said ‘well I think we should just open you ticket instead’ He then said he had some people who had asked him to do some rabbit control and was too busy so he would put me in touch with them. I’m well pleased! Variation I wanted, new land and to top it all an open ticket. Now its just the long and tedious waiting game for my license to drop through the door. ATB Jonno Quote Link to post
