Ferreters need to move with the times

Recommended Posts

Bleeding eck, feel a bit antiquated with me mark 1 now!

Nylon tangly nets all the way for me i'm afraid!

The modern ways have changed the ways i do things, especially the quad bike, the rifle cannot be turned down when it comes doing a job, a motor for getting there and back.

Personally i think if you just want to embrace all the old ways, you are holding yourself back, guess i'm more of a modernist than i thought! :o

A good locator solution is to have one ferret collared up ad run the rest without collars. If a ferret goes awol, you run the collared ferret through and it finds them (hopefully). COllars do my head in mainly because they don't fit through the nets easily.

When we go out we work 4/6 ferrets per burrow sometimes two ,three get laided into differnt rabbits in the same burrow ,theres no way im putting a ferret to ground with out a collar .Aprt from that think of the time it saves no looking for and digging out each ferret in turn ,

I should have said that what i said earlier only applies when your working one or two ferrets in smallish warrens where digging is just a case of breaking through a foot or two. In these situations its very rare we ever get a dig. When we are working older, bigger, deeper, warrens and using multiple ferrets, everyone gets a collar, as like you said it saves the hassle and time.

Thats because, like me, you still remember going arse over tit on your pushbike with all your ferreting gear crashing down on top of you, and standing in the icey winter rain for a couple of hours waiting for your ferret to surface, and if locators were invented back then you could have dug the b****rd out in ten minutes :D
