Its a right pain isnt it - mine came with a fear of nail clipping and when I think back she had REALLY short claws when I got her so maybe they'd been cut past the quick at some point, anyway, tried loads of different methods, filing, etc which all seemed to make things worse.

In the end I spent about a week just familiarising her with the clippers and getting her to associate them with particularly tasty treats which I ONLY use for nail clipping time - she got a treat every time she let me take her foot and touch the nail with clippers, etc before i even started the actual clipping - just get her relaxed round having her feet touched, the noise of the clippers, flick her nails with yours etc. When you start clipping don't force it, even one claw at a time is good, stop when she starts to pull away and start again another time.Only take a tiny bit at a time, and use the strong secateur-type clippers NOT those ones with the hole in as they shred the nail. Do it all really gradually and try to do it when she is relaxed rather than holding her down and hopefully she ll start to accept it, mine did eventually and now she ll hold her paw up to be clipped(sometimes, if she feels like it!)

Good luck!

i give my dog a bowl of very tasty food and do it when shes eating, sometimes i get them all done, sometimes just one foot but as long as some get done i am happy as i can do more on another day. just try to aim for one or two claws to start out. its better then trying to get the whole lot done and making the dog crazzy.

has anyone tryed the

newish nail trimmer its like a dremel

but with a safety guard on it.

i cant remember what its called but

its made by JML.

supposed to be easy to use on dogs that

dont like the nail cutters.

my mum bought it or me to use when doing her dogs nails, i found it to be a piece of junk, she returned it to the petshop as it was more hassle than trimming them normally (in my opinion)

some people get on great with it but my dog hates it. i think its better not to use it on a hunting dog as it can make the nails to short and you need your dog to have nails for grip on fast turns.
