Patterdale all the way, awesome little dog fearless, loyal and just gets on with the job,but thats my opinion Ive had JRT and some have been good dogs Ive even had bull breeds but Patterdales just have that something special about um

Iv got a plummer x patterdale. Only a baby really at the moment but mate hese a fiesty little f****r! Lol! When he gets the hump even my collie greyhound keeps out the way! Thats what a terrier should be imo. And hunting, what to do with game etc is simply an instinct for them. The rabbit in the pic was already dead but he crept up on it, grabbed the back of its neck and shook it silly! Lol!

patterdale is the king of the terriers in my opinion

lakelands would come a close second but are a bit of a handful and can be demanding,

although i also keep a parson for bushing but whilst i love this dog to bits i wont be going for another parson in my lifetime.

Sampson what are the terriers going to be doing workwise? Earthwork? Ratting? Bushing for rabbits? Ferreting?

Ground work hopefully. im not real sure about my options as im kinda a loner where im from. I own APBT and hunt with them but im looking to get into alil varmint hunting. Im from the Southern US and we have all kinds of quarry like Coon,Fox,Possum, rabbits, rats ,and Coyote..I have no one to teach me so im kinda at a loss but im determined and will find my own way if needed. I have owned a Patterdale but a mistake by my brother got him killed and ive waited for about a year in wait to find another good terrier. he was actually started and had drawn a coon but he was probably gonna be alil to big for earth work..thanks again for all y'alls help and opinions

Well for something like a rabbit, most terriers are up for that. Same goes for rats. Possom i dont know anything about. Fox above ground (so long as they can corner it or they wont catch it) again any terrier. Fox below ground, patterdales are the hardest. Lakelands and jacks are good too. A bloke round here who is the local terrier man and does all the earths for the keepers uses lakeland x jacks but owns a patterdale too. As for coyotes, i dont have any experience of those but i know there big c**ts and are a handfull. Considering all that i would go for a pack of patterdales.

ok Dogmagic thanks i appriciate the insight thats what i was leaning towards as well. So Patterdales are the hardest Terrier as far as ground work goes?

I had a plummer. He was a little dynamo mate but i never used him underground so i cant comment. I know that patts are brill earth dogs tho. The terrier iv got now is a patt x plummer but hese only 3 months old so again i cant comment but he DOES show a hell of a lot of promise. As i say tho if your planning to tackle coyotes you want plenty of whatever terrier you choose, if you only have one i doubt it would be long [bANNED TEXT] you had none when it goes in on one of those!
