mole catcher 1
With all this talk on here and the renewed interest in longnetting i thought i would share this piece of kit with you all. Many years ago now i started netting rabbits but soon was shown that hares can be netted as well. Those of us who observe hares will tell you of thier highways and byways of travel, most of them going through gateways. Now this is where many years later i was able to get hold of a copy of Gate Netting by GS Waters. All you netters get a copy. So i must admit i wasnt the founder of this lovely bit of kit, wish i was mind. the net in this pic is 15ft long and is held in place much like a trad longnet only the drawcord ISNT half hitched put laying on top of the pole in a groove. There is a toggle at each end of the net, these being made from teak to prevent weather damage. with the poles leaning away from the gate and the net on the outside of the hares travel it is simply a matter of the hare getting pursed as it hits the net, much in the same way as a oversized poke net. When this happens the drawcord pings off the poles, hence the need to rest upon rather than half hitch. This net has hazle pins but you could use metal ones if you wish. And as you can se by this pic the whole net can fit nicely into a pocket,if you know what i meen  Again i must say that had it not been for Mr GS Waters desire to get this method down on tape those many moons ago, then i for one would have missed the thrill of catching hares in this way. That said,it was only yesterday that i recieved a pm from him regarding a post of mine. His pm was full of advise and hints gained from his lifetime of getting out there and doing it but, what amazed me was his willingness to help when so many feel the need to just inflate thier own egos. For his advise and passing on of his knowledge i would like to say a big thank you and long may you show us young upstarts how to do it. regards molecatcher Quote Link to post

Rabbithunter 456
looks like a good set up. never had a go at netting the hare's yet but i know of some good bit's i may just make one up out of hemp or spun nylon, but use it in the fixed pole method. then if you have more than one hare wanting the gate way, you may just get them both. Have you ever pursed up two hare's at the same time? Quote Link to post
