Can i keep a young kit with mother?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

My Jill has a litter of 7 kits that are 3 weeks old, they are all doing well. I will be keeping a wee Jill kit to keep the mother ferret company as I dont have any other ferrets. My question is can I leave the kit & mother together after 8 weeks when the others have all been re-homed or would the kit torture the mother? I only have one hutch for keeping them in.

Cheers

Best to ween the kits at about 6 and a half weaks If the jill looks perticulary knackerd do it at six providing the kits are eating and drinking on there own , if u have a jill which is overly maternall when you reunite them you may find it's the other way round and the mother chases the kit around the whole time , with kit ignoring her motherly advances , when you give the mother a break make sure she gets top qaulity meat , all through actually, I had a very maternal jill so much so she made her self I'll she was so busy she neglected herself and didn't eat or drink keep an eye on this make sure you see her taking plenty of fluid it's a good idea to but a little bowl of fresh water in as I found she couldn't get enough in one go from a water bottle as she didn't have the time

Aye it can be done and as shes the kits mother she shouldn't harm it but she might still suckle off the jill and the jill wont dry up and no get the chance to build her strenght back up
