matmorgan 49
well i got my young bitch out last night for her first run,not an ideal night by any means, but had a failed attempt last week which left us sitting in the car due to the torrential rain that started on the way to my permission so i was keen to get her back out. so got to my permission and after a short walk found a potential customer sitting up in the slightly long grass about 60 yards out,so giving the dog some encouragement as she still not continually looking down the lamp yet,i headed out toward the rabbit with lamp on,at this point it squatted and was invisible to me and the dog, at about 40 yards it sat up again the dog saw it at this point and i continued walking up on the rabbit slipping her about 20 yards off,the dog,as she does took the slip as her cue to run and she took off at her usual 100mph self, the rabbit squatted back down in the grass and the bitch ran straight over it and off into yonder charging around for that no apparent reason they sometimes do,with a little squeak got her coming back in and the rabbit lifted in front of her,the chase was on,one minute she was up on it the next she was jumping up and down in typical springbok fashion indicating to me she had lost site of it,on reflection and good excuse on my part i think the grass was a little to long but hey never mind, other rabbits that were originally sitting out had become invisible couldn't find one sitter so moved on. we entered a stubble field and there was half a dozen rabbits out feeding approx 60 yards from the hedge row, slightly further out a sitter was spotted and again i walked the bitch up,even with 10yards to go it sat tight and the bitch was totally unaware of it,it lifted right on cue the bitch was slipped and the rabbit headed for home and made it but only just, the bitch not to be beaten ran down the hedgerow,to the point where your thinking where the f**k is she going, dissapeared through a hole in the hedge and ran back down to where the rabbit had gone into cover, sorry girl it never quite that easy lol,dog looking at me as if to say where the f**k did it go. we continued up the hedgerow and found a lone rabbit sitting out, soon as the lamp was swept across it squatted, now i don't know about you but even before i slipped the bitch the whole run had already taken place in my mind, perfectly lifted within a few yard and retrieved live to hand in text book style lol, funny how you have time to think all this as your walking up on a squatter. anyway with about 10 yards to go the rabbit lifted dog was slipped the chase was on,the dog managed to turn it couple time before it reached the relative safety of the long grass on the hedgerow, not to be beaten the bitch charged in behind it and after a bit of two and frowing the rabbit broke back into the field was turned again and taken confidently by the dog, text book retrieve?well not quite, she done a few laps of honour around me with the rabbit hanging from her jaws so i let her have a few moments with her prize before she gave it up,not willing to let go i hasten to add lol but her first catch none the less so well chuffed we headed for home, didn't take the camera so had to take a pic at home with her first catch, first of many hopefully, bit long winded i know but f**k it nothing else doing this sunday morning so heres looking forwrd to tonight, cheers rob nice work watchman.fine looking bitch that.
