lost ferret

Recommended Posts

they shouldnt be ferreting without a locator anyway in my opinion. if they were mine id be gutted and doing everything i could to get them back not looking for replacements :wallbash:

I'v been ferreting for about 15yrs now without a locator and i have never lost a ferret yet ! dont get me wrong i have nothing against locators......in fact i am pondering with the idea of buying one as we speak but not because i fear i will lose a ferret it will simply speed things up if i get a kill in .

I think too many people these day rely on modern technoligy when hunting....what ever happened to feild craft ?

Just my opinion :victory:

lo and theres me thinking it was you who was going to send me a box ???/

For what it's worth, Ricky, I agree wholeheartedly with ye sentiments there, mate. These days, some chavvie asks 'What kit do I need for ferreting?', the Most answered thing is a bloody Knocker Box and spade! :icon_eek:

For chrissake! The men that coached me had never heard of a bloody 'Locator' ~ certainly could never have afforded one, if they had. And picks 'n spades? F*ck off! We depended on US not crashing about so much as to spook the rabbits, and ferrets Fed Right so that there wouldn't be a problem if they did meet with an awkward customer. Even then, a good hob would clear things up.

These days? Strikes me a 'Days Ferreting' goes something more like this:

1. Drive out to flat, open permission in the choicest 4x4. 2. Set up bought Long Nets around burys. 3. Enter (Dry 'Food' fed) ferrets. 4. Check battery in mobile phone. 5. Trample all over the place, swaying yellow gadget. 6. Rearrange landscape and retrieve ferret and rabbit. 7. Photograph oppertunity. 8. Dash home to internet forum and bang on about it like digging f*cking holes is the work of Herne the Hunter. 9. Recieve adulation from people who know no better and do the same damn thing ~ " Grait picshures, mayte! [bANNED TEXT] Dog izat? ". 10. Consider yeself quite the f*ckin hero!

'What ever happened to Field Craft?' ? God knows, mate. God alone knows

Maybe I'm just a " Silly old man " though, eh? A " Dinn " ? What ever .....

my ferrets give me sport season after season, i like to think that they work their hardest and i know they take some punishment when on the arse end of a rabbit, what gives me the major hump is when people buy them for as little has £2 and treat them like sh*t, then take them out ill prepared and lose them. i know two people who run local ferret rescue centres and you should see the state of the ferrets that come in covered in ticks starving and half dead. youve said it yourself DS about ferrets being under priced and we are only to blame. i wont ferret without a locator because i dont want to lose my ferrets and i dont want to leave dead or injure rabbits underground. fieldcraft wont help you locate a dead or injured rabbit with a ferret chewing on its arse will it. and so what if people want to post pictures of there catch its shows that they are actually doing a bit and not just sitting on the computors bitching :snack:

"ferret found"bit wet but sound :clapper: thank :censored:

Glad to hear it mate, but I have to echo the others on here- slightly irresponsible in the first instance.

And also, I get the impression- and find it very concerning- that if someone had replied to your original post with "I have a couple for a fiver each if you want them", you probably wouldn't have gone looking for the lost ones.

Still, glad you got them back.
