tic in ear.

checkin over the ferrets today. and found one of my jills has got a tic inside her ear. had a go at pulling it out with tweezers. get a hold of it and she starts screaming and riggling and cant get to it. whats the best way about getting it out, as its right inside her ear hole and i dodgy spot to get to? thanks, adam.

I've been told that if you stick a blob of vaseline on the tick's body, that it suffocates the tick and it drops off. [ not sure how true this is though, so has anyone else tried this ? ] Also, doesn't ivomectin kill ticks/mites etc ?

hi bud get a pipet and put some surgical spirit in it put a few drops on to the tick dont rub it and it will drop off in a couple of days hope that helps DM

We used to live in an area rife with ticks, but they've always latched on to the dog in easy to get at places. Grip, twist and pull, bingo it's out. Sorry i couldn't be more definite for you on other techniques.

Your dead on there,even a blob of butter will do the trick

Go to your vet and they will have a plastic tick remover....doesn't look much but they really do work, they a v shape which you put around the tick and twist anti clock wise a couple of time and the tick come out without leaving the mouth parts behind which can cause ifection. I would also change all the bedding as they are probaly in it. They only cost £2.00 or £3.00 pounds. And you will have a tick solution for ever. Hope this helps.

my ferrets had ticks they screem to just use tweezers try stop your jill from movein about then just put the tweezers on the tick crush the head of it then pull make sure the legs are oot off the ferret it may cause infection if you leave the legs in

f**k me you folk live in the dark ages, if its in the ear, dab a bit of frontline spray on a cotton bud and rub it on the tic, if you pull it, it may go septic, a mate paid £29 to have a tic removed from his dogs ear, be carefull with what you do

thanks all. think ima go with the frontline spray, seems the best  and i think ill pick up some tick removers, hopefully if they have another tick, it will be in a more convenient place to kill     thanks, adam.

Dont pull the tick from its ear or you will leave the ticks jaws in to go septic, use the Frontline

the problem with ticks is if there not removed correctly & there infected they basically regurgitate right back into the host .. so if people get into the habit of removing them correctly from animals .. they will also do the same to themselves .. or other people

 

BADA sell tick pickers as well so get them from there website as there a registered charity

 

if you want to know just how devastating it can be to live with a tick borne disease ... look up the name Wendy Fox on google

i use frontline on my ferrets the 5.99 one for small dogs

it do's about 3 ferrets with one dose keeps them clear for 12 weeks

take all the bedding out of the cage and scrub it with jeyes fluid

its supposed to kill the eggs.mine used to get them all the time

because of hedghogs going in the garden

Does work but NO good if you have more than one jill in the hutch cause the others just lick it off, Better with vaseline if your going down that roate....
