Since there is no point in asking for advice then not taking it I spent some time shooting targets today.

My standard practice distance is 30yds which I repeated and the groups were OK considering the blustery wind. I changed range to 25Yds and was supprised by how high the group hit.

So in the falling light and less wind this evening I rezeroed at 25Yds (down 8 clicks and left 2clicks) shot good groups at 25 yds and about an inch of drop at 30 yds.

I went back to the set of targets I first worked out my drops on and the 25 and 30 yd groups were pretty much on the same zero, though I shoot better groups these days. My yardage today was measured with a JSR laser range finder so I guess more accurate than how I ranged the old set of targets = though I don't clearly remember if I measured or paced them.

So my problem may have been I was shooting low because I changed the way I measured distance = but of course I'm feeling foolish for not practising at different ranges regularly which would have reviled the error sooner.

Thanks for the input chaps.

If your pellet dropps an inch from 25 to 30 you must be running low mabe you need to check your ftlb

I thought that at first but its pretty much what chairgun predicts. I'll run it again in case I missed something.

Rabbits dont play by the rules FACT , if you shoot a good number of bunnies you will find that out, ive hit them through the eye under the eye above the eye behind the eye and you still get the odd stubborn one that wont give up the ghost, shooting targets will get you zeroed in to your chosen distance but wild stuff is a different ball game, targets sit still live quarry does not,any honest hunting folk will tell you they miss or wound nearly as many as they kill, they will also say they can get 1/2in grouping's at 35yrd,s on a static target, my advice to you is change to .177 and you wont go back to sub 12ftlb .22 again.

i have had a bunny going in circles after i shot one, obviously i couldnt shoot a moving target so i put my gun down and necked it. due to my poor shot the bunny had taken a pellet in the eye. maybe this is what happened to your bunny..

Hi Guys,

1st post here but I've been lurking for a while.

I use a S200 in 22 using superdomes and have had a number of cases where the head shot rabbits run in circles, left hand ones think. Sometimes the circles are small or the rabbit stops for a few seconds then goes again. Sometime the circles quite large with the rabbit disappearing into the crops but then coming out again running towards me. One I shot 2 or 3 more times, taking my time to get good shots and it then ran off. Another two I was able to catch by hand and Finnish them off manually.

So what's gong on? Am I not hitting them hard enough? Need to get gun checked? First signs of mixi?

I do get plenty which go down cleanly.

Cheers

Well, a headshot Rabbit often jumps about post shot, even with a rimfire, but an airgun is just not

powerful enough to kill them 'properly'.

I'm not saying don't do it, because thousands of them are killed every day in the UK with airguns.

I don't use my airguns on live quarry, and if I had my way nobody else would either, please get a

.22/.17hmr rimfire asap, sure if your location is unsuitable for firearms then fine, but you will be

chasing wounded bunny's for ever if you dont.

Beware the moon!
