nighteyes 275
same round where we run rolled winter wheat with thin hedgerows the rabbits are flying come december, but another place we run medow land with railway fencing the dogs make them look easy, think its the land that plays a big part to getting into the numbers, but what ever the land the rabbits still gotta be there, but any dog getting 30 plus in mid winter is a tidy dog imo Quote Link to post
COSH 14
I have to say I agree with some of the posts here, in regards that to me a 'good' lurcher would simply be one that catches well on any given land. Anyone who gets about a bit will know that 30 on some land is easier than 15 on other land, thats a fact. I personally have permisions ranging from rough fell like fields to golf courses, and honstly, I could nip up the fell have 30 slips and near enough 30 in the bag, lots of squatters, and the rough ground, wire fences and stone walls make it very easy. But if I had 30 slips on the golf course id be lucky to have 10 with the same good dog, long slips on lamp shy rabbits, very fast ground, no fences just straight into the trees/warrens. romany52 313
It's really not about numbers, if you've got a dog that makes the best of every opportunity then you've got a good un. Mike. Quote Link to post
samba 534
seen my mates 1/8collie7/8ghd catch 45 on middlem gallops a few yrs ago most my bullxs caught were 20s no more Quote Link to post
shushycatcher 219
my bitch once caught 26 out of 28 slips. This was on a mates ground in small paddocks,a few out the seat, but the rest run well. On my ground she is lucky to catch 5 out of ten, thats if i see ten rabbits!! And the ones we do see have rockets up their arses! its not about how many but how well they are run. atb shushy Quote Link to post

DUCKWING 302
we have had topics on the most popular cross, lets here about those that are actually performing well. how many of you run dogs that have done the 30+ bag of rabbits single handed in one night? how many times as that dog achieved that size bag? what cross is the dog? Theres not many done it, a lot more dogs have killed 5 out of 5 hares than killed 30+ rabbits in one night imo THAT ONE NEARLY HAD ME PISSING MYSELF ...... DUCKWING 1 Quote Link to post

The man holden the other end off he lead has got to get out there an in a mongest the numbers if thats what he is after, Likes been said round me you will be lucky to get 10 runs a night, But within an hours drive you can get in amonest a few, Put it this way one of the young lads round by me has a little lamping bitch goes out 2 aweekish and the bitch wil be lucky to catch 10 round here, Then the same bitch came out on night on with us like i say an hours drive to little horse paddocks type land with fences the bitch killed ten within walking 500 yds thats whay iam saying by take everything into consideration Wether/Ground/Proper lamper/Ect You wil get 20 30 with a avrage lurcher that knows the score..... A good dog catches even if it only has half a chance, don't know if you've noticed but a good lamper seems to be very lucky, but it's making it's own luck. That's what makes it good. baldockbanks courser 598
30 rabbits the equivalent to 6 daytime hares what about the dogs doing 50 rabbits is that the same as a dog doing 10 daytime hares Im not even interested in rabbits or hares but i bet there is more dogs about doing 30 rabbits a night than 6 daytime hares. every body gets on there hight horse on here! it was only two mins of thought while i was at work the other day not an exact science! i know 2 dogs catch over 10 hares ( not january ) round my way and none that have taken 50 bunnies. yes a lots down to the ground n numbers about. you need lighten up !
