COMPO 54
my 18month border bitch is 10 days into her season and wont let my border dog anywere near her. i,ve never breed any of my dogs before, just wonderin do i leave them to it ,is she still to young? or do i get involved and hold her ? would appreciate any advice. by the way the dog is tryin his hardest.. i agree with the other lads, let her do some work and see if she is worth breeding from, borders are still very babyish at that age however bitches very rarely stand at 10 days, usually nearer 12, you need to watch the colour of her discharge, when it changes from red to clear then she may be ready, also run your hand down her back and her flanks and if she moves her tail to the side she is ready, Dont just leave them together, hold her while he mounts and mates her and hold her whilst they are tied, too many dog's are put off by the bitch snapping and trying to move away (especially when they tie) , I would leave her this eason and breed in a few seasons time, and if you have never mated and bred dogs before, get someone to help who has
