novice 25
Can anyone give me some pointers as to a decent scope for use on a .243 or .308? I'm lloking to getting into some stalking and from what I've been told, you spend most of your coin on a decent scope and then lash out on your rifle. Is it worth buying second hand? Any favourite makers or specifications? Quote Link to post

novice 25
Cheers for the replies fellas. I am on a bit of a budget as my girlfriend and I are saviing for a house and I don't earn a fortune. I was hoping to get a rifle, scope and rings for around £500 - £600. Am I dreaming or is it possible? I don't mind second hand but I am worried about buying a shot out rifle or a scope that has been bashed to bits. Edited December 10, 2006 by novice Quote Link to post

Guest Macnas
I know I'm tempting the wrath of many here, but what the hell... My brother-in-law bought a S&B copy, made somewhere in asia (like most scopes these days), for under 2 ton. It's a 30mm tube, 10x (fixed) magnification, mil-dot illuminated reticule, quick click turrets and side mounted focus adjustment. He's put about 500 rounds through his .223 with it on top of it, with no problems, took it up to the midlands rifle range a few weeks ago and shot out to 200 yards with excellent results. He's boxed it, grouped in all 4 corners no problems, and tested the mil-dots just for pig iron, with they being bang-on as well. Glass isnt as good as a bona-fide S&B, but better than a tasco or similar budget scope. The whole lot, package and postage included came to something like 150 euros. In my opinion, for whatever that may be worth, 10x is plenty especially for stalking. I know a lot of people wouldnt touch it, but it seems like a lot of scope for the money..... Quote Link to post
Guest Frank
Their is another alternative, that being the S & B Hungarian, link below: http://www.ritchies.co.uk/acatalog/index.h...tml&CatalogBody I have used these scopes, top stuff, no different then the German version, its made by them, but just in hungary.
