Recommended Posts

Thinking of getting my 1st lurcher and have had no real previous experience with the different mixes. I am hoping to hunt rabbits in small to medium fields in my local area, Lancashire. Seen 1st cross Whippet/Greyhound on net. Sire is a 22" working whippet and Dam is a ex track greyhound 25". oppinions on this cross please. All advice welcome ON other options.... CHEERS.

good cross for rabbits imo

what type of ground ou going to be running your dog on if its rough ground you might be best off looking for a collie x or beddy x whippet

pretty much any half decent working lurcher/longdog will catch you rabbits.but personally if your working smaller fields id use a smaller dog.grey/whippet will do the job good enuff as any but you may wanna think about something with good feet, coat etc.

Considering this cross myself like sh@t off a shovel, but may edge towards border collie/greyhound cross whippet, bit more sensible and less injury prone....easy to train....maybe chuck some bedlington in there too.

some whippet x greys can be a bit thin skinned and can have feet that are easy knocked up . (i used to have one 7/8s grey 1/8 whippet she was spot on) not all are like this takes you to look at the parents see how they are..

The main concern wi u guys would be feet and thin skin with the whippet/grey cross,? would i be right in thinking. Does collie in there help improve these issues and brain power?. So many mixes. Do pure whippets have feet and skin issues too? cheers
