First In a While!

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Bagged my first bunny since returning to the sport last evening. I was really buzzing as I have worked hard on my marksmanship, and it paid off!! I have done a lot of paper punching and some HFT, and not shot at anything live until I have been %100 confident in achieving a humane dispatch.

Well, I got to my cricket club shoot at 1930hrs yesterday. Took out my HW95k and checked zero, spot on at 30 yds.Im really determined to get the numbers under control on this shoot as the rabbits have been scraping at the outfield and square, making little 'ankle breaker' holes.

Off I went on a slow steady stalk around the outfield. There were some corvids knocking about, but I wanted to devote my full attention to the fluffy tails. I was seeing lots of damage and droppings but no bunnys as yet. I decided to lay up in front of a small copse of trees near the car park to the club, on the other side of the ground. I began my into breeze stalk along a small row of connifers towards the copse.

I saw a rabbit feeding at about 60yds in front of me. Carrying on my stalk, no sudden movements, staying nice and low, I got to within 40yds. I smoothly adopted the kneeling position and brought my rifle to bear. Composing my breathing, I decided this was a one and a half mil-dot over. I was running through in my head, "dont snatch at the trigger", "follow the shot through". I took my advice and squeezed through the second stage of the trigger, and stayed in position to watch through the scope, the AA Diablo strike just behind the eye. The rabbit jumped and flipped, kicked for a couple of seconds, then lay stone dead.

It may seem a long write up for just one rabbit, but Im still buzzing, its been about ten years!! Looking forward to getting more. If any of you lads are in my area and fancy an evening out shooting let me know. The more the merrier.

Kind Regards,

Mikeyblue.

Congratulations on a successful return! I had a similar one shot wonder the other night. Have an SP for the effort.

I've always figured it's not the amount you shoot but the achievement of each shot! A whole day with one in the bag can be as rewarding as a two hour trip with 6 shot. Nice one mate and great write up!
