They are amazing looking dogs. I was in Turkey last year and saw several. The dogs in the mountains were 10 times the dogs you saw chained up in town, really lean, mean and huge! I have no doubt they

it would be like US staghound,         Not hardly. It wouldnt be able to catch shit.

On this site, folk are more pre-ocupied about whats in a dog rather than how it performes!

Its all fantasy lads. What would a Karabash x saluki grey be able to catch? Humans? Possibly wild boar? I imagine they wouldnt be any good working in a pack, they would just turn on each other, then you would have to contend with a pack of mongrel monster beasts all fighting. Imagine the independance and ferocity of the kangal crossed with the stubborn aloofness of the saluki! Its just ludicrous fantasy.

Speed and determination kills quarry, not ferocity.

I like Bird so I aint talkin about him. He just happened to start the thread but..........trust me when I say this, "It aint just this site!". Some ole boy asks a question about and "odd" cross on any site and I give my opinion that its probably not a good idea cuz facts are that it just wont work and HOLY HELL, you'd have thunk I called somebody's momma a whore. For f**k sake, it probably would have been better if I had said that. :o

Thanks lads  , as i said in the post when other guard breeds were spoke of to use with a running dog, i only said that the kangal was one of the most healthy of the guard breeds (if) you were to use a guard breed. And it(might) look like Stag , but thats it just looks nothing (else).? I would never go down any road like that, we have Brill lurchers in the UK (bullxs, colliexs, salukixs ....etc.) I will be having a great bullx dog pup very soon carnt wait  if i wanted watchdog, i would get a jack they make plenty of noise ,especially standing next to a bullx lol

with all these posts on guard breeds x running dogs. If you were going to breed to guard breed, use a healthy one that can handle any weather (hot+cold), and as racey physique, fast, very strong jaw, good coat+feet, and wont back down from anything, and hell of a guard dog  If x to a salukixgrey, it would be like US staghound, with a guarding instinct  Been reading about kangal dogs , and they are the most healthy of all the big breeds (28-30in 150lb ), and still work in Turkey guardig sheep from wolves +wild dogs, and will kill the above if need be, hell of a dog. So if you want guard x running dog, get a proper one. i will stick with bullxs+colliexs a bit easier to handle lol :

yousing a gaurd breed, why bother trying to get one of the above, shurly you would just go to a belguim shepard ( malanois)

I agree

maybe a caucasian mountain dog??

waaaay too aggressive, a 1 person dog too, has a lot of dominance issues, would be dangerous to in the wrong hands, i studied up on this breed as i would like 1 myself but it will be a long time before im in a position to get one even though im out in the country im still too close to civilisation to keep one.
