bird 9,873
with all these posts on guard breeds x running dogs. If you were going to breed to guard breed, use a healthy one that can handle any weather (hot+cold), and as racey physique, fast, very strong jaw, good coat+feet, and wont back down from anything, and hell of a guard dog If x to a salukixgrey, it would be like US staghound, with a guarding instinct Been reading about kangal dogs , and they are the most healthy of all the big breeds (28-30in 150lb ), and still work in Turkey guardig sheep from wolves +wild dogs, and will kill the above if need be, hell of a dog. So if you want guard x running dog, get a proper one. i will stick with bullxs+colliexs a bit easier to handle lol : Quote Link to post

bird 9,873
better known as Anatolian Shepherd Dog yes , great dogs, some say they are differnt breeds great dogs in the right hands Quote Link to post
Pops 19
the anatolian sheperd was founded w/ mutts by a US air force officer. when he decided to "write" a standard he copied the standard for the ahkbash but wrote that any color was acceptable. the first buyers found their dogs couldn't meet the standard & couldn't produce pups that met the standard either. further the turks consider it a mutt and only recognize the ahkbash, the kangal & the kars as breeds. it is americans & brits of the show fancy that attempted merge the ahkbash & the kangal w/ their mutts. i would tend to believe the turks know their dogs better than a bunch of show nimrods here or in the UK. Tyla 3,179
They are amazing looking dogs. I was in Turkey last year and saw several. The dogs in the mountains were 10 times the dogs you saw chained up in town, really lean, mean and huge! I have no doubt they would make excellent hunting dogs crossed with a running dog but i cant see the point. We live in England, even if it was legal to hunt all species here a dog that size would be, IMO, excessive unless you were planning to specialise in red deer. I think people get carried away after seeing posts from other countries where their quarry warrents that kind of cross. 2 Quote Link to post

brunty29cdo 5
in afghanistan they have some breeds which looks like kangal and ovcharka(probly left from russian invasion) type dogs.they use them for dog fighting out there and some of them are lethal.iv watched them creep up on people and attack them first hand..hell i even shot one about to attack a kid.possably the toughest of all dog breeds.time bomb in the wrong hands, like many a breed i guess. Mr Hunter 31
Pub near me used to have one crossed with an Irish Wolfhound it looked like it could take down a Lion.Needless to say we didnt try to pinch all the empty Newcastle Brown Ale bottles for the 7p return from the back of that pub. judge2010 196
the dog from afganistan is called the sage kooche and instead of using a kangal what about using another turkish breed named boz shepherd dogs. Quote Link to post
