Hi all just sorting out my application for a fac. The thing is I dont know what cal to apply for. I have a farm with land behind my house with several foxes there and I was planning on getting my fac granted for that land. I have been recommended to get a 22-250 cal but what would be best to apply for on first grant? And also how different is the refery system. And my other problem is the old farmer is in his 80`s and I know that he just lets me carry-on with what I want on the land but would the land check people want to speak to him? I come under dyfed powys and they took nearly 3 months with the sgc cert. I`ts just I dont want to lamp foxes with a shotgun late at night.

Yes the FEO will talk to your landowner , usually just a quick phone call to check you have permission and to arrange to check the land is suitable.

It depends whether the land has been surveyed before, you can ring your Firearms Office and they'll tell you whether it has been cleared already and if so, what it's cleared up to.

Speak to your FEO, ask him what calibre they consider suitable for fox, some will allow HMR/WMR but a centrfire (.204Ruger/.22Hornet/.222/.223/.22-250) is a better bet. If you can get some experience with a centrefire it will help your application but it shouldn't be essential. If you have the land, you should be ok.
