Phantom 631
Went back there last night Gave Mrs G' the two bunnies I'd prepared for her and she was well chuffed It was a strange evening though this time; but what a glorious evening Laid up in ambush in a slightly differing position. this time I was a few yards to the right this meant that any thing that showed it's self was at least 5 feet away from the entrance to those holes I'd sucessfully coverd a couple of nights ago. I laid up for 1 hour 30 mins; no sign of anything and the traffic on the 63 just a few yards behind me was exceptionally heavy today. The boys in Blue in both Marked and unmarked patrol cars were very busy as well as the ambulance service all screaming up and down witht he lights and sirens wailing out in both Easterly and Westerly directions. So I decided to have a stalk around the perimiter in a clockwise direction covering the large meadow type garden that I was in first. Making my way onto the front lawn I came across a very large Woody at the base of a tree, no sign of injury at all but was face down in the dead leaves. Didn't look like it had been dead long and the breast felt warm to the touch still; but as I don't know what topped it I wasn't gonna eat it Making my way across the front lawn I could see a warren that I thought was dead next to a tree I have used previously as a nice sniping spot and hide; had fresh sand, soil and droppings at the entrance. if I sit in the tree I can knoble them from above as they clear the warren :11: Passing the driveway and the large front garage I made my way to the side gardens. Over on the side lawn I could see a fair few, well 6 young and a three quater grown with a very nice Fawn colour furr. I made my way over to about 35 yards and from standing dropped the first of the night. In under the right ear and out of the left eye. The 3/4 grown bunny launched forward a good three feet in one spectacular leap and landed dead as a Dodo The rest scattered towards the little wooded and shrubbed area I call the orchard. Going to retrieve my prize I noticed its whiskers were twitching slightly and bunny had a blade of grass protruding from the mouth. I put my thumb and forefinger on its chest to feel for a heartbeat. I could feel my own pulse in my thumb but there was nothing from the Coney's heart at all she was indeed dead and the twitching whiskers were just the last of the electrical signals left in the system. Picking up the bunny by the legs I held it up for Mrs G' to see who was looking out of the kitchen window. she gave me a thumbs up and a smile and I made my way back to my sniping spot feeling much ellated and patience renewed A good 40 mins had past and I saw one youngish bunny run towards me at speed and it turned to my right and vanished down one of the holes I was covering without stopping even for a click of my tongue. Oh well he can meet my 16 grains of lead another time Another 30 minutes passed and the sunset had made the sky and clouds turn from the nice pink colour a wonderful crimson colour. It seemed to be setting fast tonight and the clumps of long grasses seemed to take on a different shape causing me to repeatedly look at them closely through my scope on max mag. I was sure I had spotted movement directly in front of me, so scope at eye; I swung my baby in that direction to see a pair of ears laid back and just the top of the skull that they were attached to. Its only a baby I thought so clicked my tongue causing this coney to sit bolt upright. Thats no baby I thought to myself as I adjusted the poorly illuminated crosshair on the sweetspot (I really must remember to turn it off when not using it!) The bunny was in a slight dip that I knew to be 30 yards from me. So there was no need for hold under or over, a click, phut followed instantly by a loud Crack saw the bunny fall over to its right and kick its hindlegs wildley for a few seconds before the legs stopped moving and settled. At just before 21:00 I saw what I thought was the shape of a rat, so quickly lit up my new quarry target only to find it was a young hedgehog forraging around for food in the grass. I watched for ages it wishing I had my camera with me when my beam of light suddenly caused a very bright almost diamond like reflection to appear as if from knowhere directly in front of the fence that the caravans are behind. Sweet. The bunny first changed its direction back to where it had come from but as I followed it with the lamp it changed again making its way back to the fence. As soon as it stopped, I observed the pellet whizz across the little arc of trajectory towards its mark. Pellets under the lamp look amazing. The pellet vanished as it embedded itself in the skull of the bunny, knocking it over with barely a twitch of a wave g'night. I decided to call it a night at this point and made my way home for my tea. Sorry no pix guy's, I left my phone at home as I've misplaced the charger and I am now having to rely on the usb to charge it up with Phnatom 3 Quote Link to post
