Unpredictable Jill

Recommended Posts

I've got a hob and a jill, the hob is daft as a brush (although he turns into a demon when he gets a wiff of a bunny) but the jill is only soft with me, tries to bite literally everybody else who comes into contact with her. I'm getting a lurcher pup on Friday and want to introduce it to the ferrets straight away as it'll be used mainly as a ferreting dog. The problem I've got is just as a tester I held my jill against my mastiff and in the blink of an eye she tried to bite him. How do I get around this when I introduce the pup, the last thing I want is for the jill to bite the pup and the pup to then be scared of ferrets! I don't know if she was only biting the dog because of me holding her against it, or whether she will get a grip of the pup. I'm thinking of letting them get together but keeping a bucket of water handy in case she gets a grip of the pup, I know how bloody hard it is to get ferrets of something once they have hold!! Is she likely to be ok with the pup? what do people think?

youre not going to know unless you try it mate. have a go and see.

try them and just keep giving it a go, with a bit of luck she will calm down.

if it were me though i wouldnt keep a ferret that will bite everyone and everything except me.

best of luck

forgot to add mate. put them a bowl of milk down to share, normally does the trick for the first introduction. also try and make sure the pup can see the ferrets regularly.

when i built my dog pen and ferret court i joined them together with mesh seperating them, this way they can go and have a nosey at each other whenever they fancy

alright mate are you just putting ferret and dog straight together?? if so i wouldnt i would take it slowly and like what the other reply says if it doesnt calm down i wouldnt use that gill with a dog because if that ferret bite the dog in the field you will more than likely end up with a dead ferret and a dog that will be shy with ferrets. hope it works out mate

have a jill like that meself mate, i just use a different ferret tae start the pups introduction to them

then when at least ye know the pup is gonna be cool ye can try the jill, as ye will be a bit easier only having to watch her, rather than her and an excited puppy
