Good place to start on here for info. Thats what you need to do chap. Read some good books, keep asking questions, maybe go out with someone with a lurcher and get to see what they are capable of do

You probably are asking a bit much mate really.

Especially considering you want a smallish dog.

What about the classic allrounder the collie cross? or perhaps 3/4 grey bred collie cross?

i was thinking about that to 1/4 bearded collie 3/4 grey, what would they be like with big ears, sorry about all the questions i new to the lurcher world, well this would be my second lurcher..

thanks andy

should be ok any 3/4 greyhound lurcher should be able to catch them . got a 1/4 beardie 3/16 bull 9/16 grey here and he will catch them in the day but thats not giving fair law :whistling: he is a bit heavy for them really ..

Just do all your home work, lots of it, then prepare for it, the rest only comes with experience, otherwise you will be brewing a recipe for a disaster, where maybe the said dog will be re homed/sold on and to join the other 30000 lurchers on death row.

There is no way in hell you are askin too much. You are just wantin a dog to fool around with. That's not even close to askin too much.

chears mate, what dog would you get if you was me?

if i was you id look up some old posts and look at pics of dogs see what type you like .. wheaton xs , beddy x greys , beardie xs ,border xs something with saluki through it should all be able to do what you want in 3/4 x form as poacher says a good lurcher x lurcher is another option ..

The lad himself is not asking too much by wanting a decent dog but... I think he is asking too much of one dog to be any good at three very different disciplines.

Sure you can get good lamping and ferreting dogs and good lamping and daytime dogs but a good lamping, ferreting and daytime dog??? one step too far old bean.

Im sure they exist but i think what you'll end up with is either

a dog that ferrets well but gets laughed at by hares or a dog that bowls them over but gets bored and wonders off when its supposed to be watching nets.

Its just my opinion
