Guest fence_hopper
all retired dogs down my way are sold to the local chinese restaurant. For some unknown reason they like to take care of old dogs .I had a take away out of there last week and got something stuck in my tooth .I went to the dentist the next day and he pulled out a micro chip from a dog out of my tooth .Turned out to be the micro chip from my girl friends old poodle .Funny how things have a habit of biting you in the arse
Guest Buttermilk
Well I don't know how to do the copy thing...but I said to Watchman, about my bitch having bone cancer. He said to "do the right thing"...which I certainly will, when she's ready. She's not in pain, yet....is out in the paddock all day, every day still catching rabbits, she eats like a horse and constantly wags her tail.I monitor her closely and the minute she is in distress I will have her pts...in her own home with me. And I did mean it actually Watchman...I was being genuine.
Guest Buttermilk
no room in my kennels for ex-working dogs, sorry but that's how it is ....give me a shout when the time comes and your oldies can come over here and live with me. Is it a deal..? don't try and be a bloody martyr, just saying what people like to hear is not the answer, even if it was meant, never gonna happen I just read this....I'm not trying to be a "bloody martyr" and I don't think anyone has ever accused me of "just saying what people like to hear"...I was being genuine. scothunter 12,609
sorryto hear that you have had bad expierences with vets, but there are some good ones aswell.so what do you do f your dogs are injured or need to PTS?and i aint talking about a cut pad or a few stiches. labsnlurchers 39
I dont agree with PTS in the case of the average terrier or lurcher owner where there is a one to one bond. Its different in the big hunt kennels where the animals are kept as a pack. Having said that i do not knock those who choose to PTS their retired workers humanely, its a matter of opinion and its a personal choice either way.

Guest Buttermilk
As I said to Watchman...I don't have the knowledge to pts myself. I would if I could. Our vet comes to the house, chats and has a coffee...he doesn't rush it and then gives the dog a strong pre-med.This helps as they are relaxed and very sleepy and in their own environment with me, then they sort of drift away. I too have heard terribly traumatic tales of dogs being pts by incompetent vets...it's heartbreaking.
