RiffRaff 5
been shooting with a mate on paper an tin chickens for a while now on a wednesday. hes been shooting for about a year an abit an hes been going on about going rabbiting, lamping an stuff.an has he as got a car an i cant drive for a while. due to having a lead foot on the M1 i thought would ask if he wanted to go up to one of my shoots an see if he could do it/ so to start with he is consistantly shooting a group of 5-8 pellets out of ten in a 2p bitsized circle. but he has never shot at anything living an was abit worried about if he could dispatch it humanely.so i thought we would give it ago an see how he gets on. so i made some targets the size of a bunnies head out of cardboard an zini,s rabbits head target cut out an stuck to it cheers Si an stuck some small spoke reflectors (anyone with kids an bikes will know what i mean) in the switch off zone so he could see them anyway i set them out at distances from 20 yards out to 45 yards,so we had abit of a plink on the zero range ,an i set off to put these sparkley rabbits in the field because there are a few sheep about. off we go on a wander round to stalk these cardbord bunnies, an to be honest he did quite well, but still its not live quarry is it , so we wander about the fields i have an i show him were the runs are an were they sit an sunbathe, while making a mental note to myself about the blackthorn bushes, Sloe Gin sprang to mind an i could taste last years, so we nips back to the car an grabs a coffee an a ciggie 15 or so mins later hes now up for a another go at cardbord buggs he does better this time his range estimation his getting better but we still aint seen a live one an to be honest im getting a bit naffed off by then there are normaly a few running about.then i had a thought these reflectors, they should be good for practice for him with the lamp when its getting dark so i nip over to the gate an stick a couple on the gate posts an no i wasnt going to shoot them i just wanted to see how they glowed when i flicked em with the lamp an was well impressed when it got proper dark they shone like little stars when i shone the lamp bit bright, so i stuck on me home made red filter cos the bought orange one was still to bright an the red was better than i thought it would be. so as the night draws in i scan the back field where the sparkley tagets are an the work bloody well its getting on for 9:30 thats 21:30 for the educated among us LOL. i notice hes shooting a bit low in the dark with the lamp so tells him to give his scope a couple of clicks up an see how it goes well enought said for sparkley targets shot four reflectors smashed. so we have a wander to were the rabbits normaly have a feed on a night an what do yah know flicks the lamp on an there the blighters are 60 yards or so away so flicks it off sharpish an we beging to slow walk to get to about 30ish yards away. so we gets to were i think its about 25 30 yards away an tells gary to get ready for when i flick the lamp on. so he kneels down with a pellet in his Ultra i flick the lamp one he cocks the Ultra an buggs lifts his head to see what the noise was. an he lets fly with the pellet an he misses. but the brazzen bunny just sits there thinking im pretty safe but the wierd thing is it just sat there with me lighting it up. while gary has to reload an cock the Ultra it seemed like an lifetime/ before i heard the phutt an that propper smack sound you get when you know the rabbit has gone to the carrot field in the sky. i flicked the lamp off an an gary is grinning like a cheshire cat an shaking when he calms down all he can say is what a rush what a rush. im well pleased for him he bust his rabbit cherry the first time out an in the dark with a lamp. so to calm him down we head back to his car for a coffe and another ciggie its about 40 mins by the time he has calmed down. we set off again but to another field with plenty of stuff we can hide behind an snipe a warren. so we gets comfy 40 yards dead from the warren an waits for the carrot crunchers to pop out. so gary can have another go out comes buggs an tell him to wait till its level with a clump of thistles wich are 35 yards from where we are we can see the outline cos its a full moon an flicks the lamp he takes aim an fekk me number two down with a twitch of its back leg so not only has he got a rabbit first time out hes bust his multi kill to im well happy for him now he knows he had nowt to worry about looks like i have some competion shoot safe Riff my spellin mebee hit n mis but i dunt miss with the Ripley or the S400 Edited August 22, 2010 by RiffRaff Quote Link to post
